CONTEXT

The English Language Centre (ELC) is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced EAP professional to join their team as Pre-sessional English and Academic Study Skills (PEASS) Co-ordinator.

The ELC is a professional service located in the Student Services department of the University of Lincoln. The service provides English language support for international students both before and during their programme of study. The University of Lincoln is committed to enhancing the international student experience through the development of the English Language Centre.

This is a fixed term period of employment and will cover aspects of both the preparation and the management of the University’s Pre-sessional English and Academic Study Skills (PEASS) 20, 10 and 5 week programmes.
The post has been created to support the current Pre-sessional Programme Manager who has been seconded to work on other University projects.
The period of employment will be on a part time (22.2 hours per week), fixed term basis from 1st March 2016 to 30th September 2016. Working hours are negotiable but must incorporate adequate coverage and support of the PEASS programme.
The PEASS course dates are:
20 week PEASS course: Monday the 25th of April 2016 - Friday the 24th of May 2016
10 week PEASS course: Monday the 4th of July 2016 - Friday the 9th of September 2016
5 week PEASS course: Monday the 8th of August 2016 – Friday the 9th of September 2016
JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will make a significant contribution to the quality of the international student experience and to the University’s international recruitment and external income-generating effort as a member of the English Language Centre (ELC) by:
Working with the Pre-sessional Programme Manager to prepare, develop, manage and deliver the learning and teaching materials, schemes of work and assignment briefings for the PEASS programmes for 2016.
Co-ordinating and supporting a team of EAP Tutors employed to deliver the PEASS programmes.
Liaising with the English Language Centre Administrative team in order to ensure effective delivery of the PEASS programmes.
N.B. This post will involve limited teaching which will be restricted to sickness cover or other appropriate times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning & Organising
Implement the programme syllabus and scheme of work for the 5, 10 and 20 week PEASS programmes, ensuring effective delivery and management of the programmes.
Decision Making
In consultation with the Pre-sessional Programme Manager, make any relevant amends to the existing scheme of work and materials as well as make observations during the course that could inform alterations for future courses.
Administration
To oversee and keep up to date with the administration of the PEASS programmes as necessary (including assessment reports, classroom registers, marking, results and class records of work, using VLE for daily notices and reporting on student progress as required) ensuring that all the above meets any relevant Home Office requirements set out by the University of Lincoln Visa Compliance Team.
Pastoral Care
To provide pastoral care for the PEASS programmes, referring individuals to other relevant members of the English Language Centre staff or other University support staff where appropriate
Other
Provide teaching cover for any unexpected absences of contracted PEASS tutors
The post holder will also be expected to review, as well as second mark, student work especially where a failing mark has been allocated by the tutor.

In addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

Flexible working, including evenings and/or weekends, may be required to meet key deadline. Qualifications:
