On completion of this module the learner will be able to:

a)  Outline the business challenges of introducing e-commerce to an organisation (12 A.1, A.6, A.7, A.8, B.12, B.14)

b)  Analyse the e-environment (12 A.2, A.3, B.12, B.13, B.14)

c)  Assess the role of macro-economic factors such as economics, taxation and legal constraints.(12 A,1, A.2, C.18, C19)

d)  Evaluate the benefits and risks of e-procurement, the use of the internet for supply chain management and internet marketing considerations. (12 A.1, A.2, A.3 A.6, A.8)

e)  Develop an outline plan for implementing e-commerce.(12 A.7, A.8, C.18, C.19, )

a)  Research the workplace for a case for e-business, present and report the findings (12 B.14, C.18, C.20)

c)  Evaluate and interpret information and evidence from a number of sources (12 B.9, C.15)

d)  Communicate effectively, information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms to specialist and non-specialist audiences (12 B.12, B.13, C17, C19, D.23)

e)  Identify, formulate and solve the e-business decision using qualitative and quantitative techniques. (12 C.15, D.23, D.24, D.25)

13) A synopsis of the curriculum

This module develops awareness and understanding of the financial, marketing and personnel issues that will need tool be addressed when conducting business via the internet The challenge and procurement considerations facing management and the legal implications of exploiting global business opportunities. Learners will appreciate considerations of the wider (global) market, and investigate the external environment. E-business challenges and implementation concerns will be an opportunity for learners to demonstrate decision making and evaluation skills as well as cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and evidence.

15) Learning and Teaching Methods, including the nature and number of contact hours and the total study hours which will be expected of students, and how these relate to achievement of the intended learning outcomes

Tutor directed study, 1.5 hours per week (lectures/seminars) for 17 weeks for formal input and directed activity

Tutor directed study, 1.5 hours per week (tutorial) for 17 weeks supported contact time for case studies, business games, simulations, problem-solving, business report writing, and student presentations IT use will be integrated throughout the module.

Self directed study recommendation 100 hours per student, to ensure adequate preparation for lecture, seminar, and tutorial and assessed work.

Total study per student = 150 hours

The combination of tutor directed study and self directed study is to develop knowledge, understanding, analytical ability and evaluation skills relating to the achievement of intended learning outcomes 11a-e and 12a-e

16) Assessment methods and how these relate to testing achievement of the intended learning outcomes

Assessment of this module will focus on students’ application of the taught principles to real business scenarios.

Weighting 50% coursework 50% examination.

1 piece of coursework. Coursework 1(50%), prepare a report critically appraising a case for e-business start-up in a local SME relating to the achievement of intended learning outcomes 11a-e, and 12 a-e.

Examination (50%), Case study - a business scenario relating to the achievement of intended learning outcomes 11a-e, and 12 d,e.
