•A new methodology has been introduced to accurately investigate breast radiation dose for real breasts in cone-beam breast CT, which requires threshold segmentation method and Monte Carlo simulation.

•Conducted several cone beam CT experiments for mastectomy breasts and phantoms regarding image quality and dose evaluation.
