Conditions for Ada and Bertie Levenstein (Department of Medicine)Bursaries

Purpose / The Ada and Bertie Levenstein (Department of Medicine) Bursaries have been established to provide support to medical students who are preparing for or undertaking joint MBChB/Bsc Med Honours, MBChB/Masters, or MBChB/PhD degrees in the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT.
Call for applications / An open call for applications will be issued once per year, and applications may be submitted to the Head of the Department of Medicine at any time during the year.
Conditions / The successful Bursar will be required to:
  • Register for a course to prepare for a joint research degree or a joint research degree with the MBChB degree full-time at the University of Cape Town.
  • Comply with the University’s approved policies, procedures and practises for such joint degree as may apply from time to time.
No service will be required in return for the award.
Value and tenure / The value of the Bursary will depend on the needs of the student and the availability of funds.
The Bursary is tenable for one year and further annual renewals will be considered on evidence of satisfactory academic progress and availability of funds.
Academic criteria / Applicants must be admitted to a course or joint degree following interview by the Selection Committee of the UCT Clinical Scholars Programme which was established on the basis of a Vice Chancellors’ Strategic Award in 2010.
Application requirements / All applications should include:
A letter of application stating the level of financial need;
A full and up-to-date curriculum vitae;
Names (and contact details) of at least two contactable referees.
Selection process / Eligible and complete applications will be considered by the Head of the Department of Medicine.
Closing date for applications / Applications may be submitted at any time during the year, and will be considered within 1 month of submission.
