Relevant ordinance and Regulations for Post Graduate Course under Semester System from Session 2014-16 onwards

The programme of P.G. Sociology will be of two years duration divided into two academic Session/four semester and each Session will have two semester which shall be names as under:-

(1) M.A. part I- I & II Semester

(2) M.A. part II- III & IV Semester

1. Admission
2. A candidate seeking admission to M.A. (Semester System) must be a graduate with Bachelor Honours in Sociology.
3. No private candidate shall be allowed for admission in Post
4. Graduate programme under the Semester System
5. Selected candidate will be admitted in Ist semester of M.A.Part I
6. The reservation of seats for the course shall be as per reservation rules of the Govt. of Bihar.

1. Programme of Study

2.1 The duration of M.A. (Semester System) course will be of two academic sessionscomprising four semesters.

2.2Each Semester shall be of 16 to 18 weeks of actual study. The exam. of M.A. Sociology shall consist of four semesters of six months each.

2.3Each academic session shall consist of two Semesters

(I)I & II Semester From July to December

(II)II & IV Semester From January to June.

2.4The M.A. course shall consist of 16 papers spread over four Semesters with four papers in each semester carrying 100 marks each paper. The entire curriculum shall be of 1600 marks taken together.

2.5The papers of the course shall be of two categories.

(a) Core papers- 12 papers- The core paper will be compulsory paper.

(b) Elective paper- o4 papers- The elective paper will be optionaland each students shall be required to opt any two of the elective papers during IIIrd and IV Semester.

2.6 Paper 4th in Ist Semester & paper 8th in IInd Semester will be core practical paper whereas paper 12 in IIIrd Sem. & paper 15th in IV Sem. will be elective practical papers. Beside these papers 16th will be of Project work.

3.0 Evaluation of performance

3.1 The performance of a student in each paper will be assessed on the basis of a Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) of 30 marks and the End of Semester Examination (ESE) consisting of 70 marks.

3.2 The components of CIA shall be:

(a) Two Mid-Semester Written Test of one – hour

Duration each-15 Marks

(b)Seminar/Quiz- 5 Marks

(c) Assignments- 5 marks

(d) Regularity, Punctuality and Conduct- 5 marks

Total- 30 marks

3.3 The concerned teacher of the course/paper shall be responsible for conducting the mid-semester tests and other components of the CIA. In addition to CIA, the ESE, which will be written examination of 3- hours duration, would also form an integral component evaluation.

3.4 The evaluation of practical paper and field work will also be based on CIA and an end-semester practical examination.

3.5All such examination shall be as per the provisions of examination board and moderation board of the University.

4.0 Examination

4.1The End-Semester-Examination will be conducted by the University. The two mid-semester tests will be conducted and marked by the departmental teachers. The teacher shall show the answer scripts of the first mid-semester tests to the students of the class.

4.2The End of Semester Examination (ESE) shall be named as follows:-

(a) M.A. Part (I)-I Semester Examination and

II SemesterExamination respectively.

(b) M.A. Part (II)-III Semester Examination and Iv

IV Semester Examination respectively.

(c) Syllabus of each paper shall be divided into 5 units. Based on this, the question paper shall be as follows:-

Part-A

Ten objective type Questions10 x 2 = 20 marks

(Two Questions from each Unit)

Part-B

Five Short Answer Questions (Four to be answered)

(One Question from each Unit)4 x 5 = 20 marks

Part-C

Three long answer Questions out of five to be answered

(One question from each Unit- 3 x 10=30 marks

4.4 The examination of I and II Semester, shall generally be held in the month of November-December and that of II and IV Semester, shall be held in the month of May-June.

4.5There shall be 50 marks for CIA & 50 marks of ESE in Sociology Practical papers.
