Tic-Tac-Toe Activity Response Choices

“FICTION”

You need to complete three activities. Please select three activities from this Tic-Tac-Toe graphic organizer and complete them by ______.

Visual/Spatial
Create a mental picture of what you are reading. Use a tape recorder, SpeakQ or record phrases about the text you are reading that lead you to get a mental picture.
Once you have a mental picture about something that is happening in the text, illustrate it on paper or create a power point presentation. / Musical/Rhythmic
Make a CD of at least 5 songs that represent the themes/characters/events in the story. The music can be present day or of the period but should represent the themes/characters/events. Make a cover for the CD. Write a brief comment for each song selected.

Create a newspaper want ad for a person with morals and ethics. Be sure to tell job applicants what kinds of skills they need to do this job. What values does a person with morals and ethics possess? Use Microsoft Publisher or Word to produce the finished copy. / Intrapersonal
Imagine that you are the main character in your story. Create a series of diary entries (either written on paper or in Kurzweil or tape recorded) that tell about some of the main events and how you feel about them.
Visual/Spatial
Compare and contrast yourself to one or two different characters in the text. Demonstrate your understanding of the character(s) by completing a Venn Diagram or creating a web using Kidspiration. / Verbal/Linguistic
Keep a written journal log or an oral log by using Clicker 5 and record through writing or speech a short summary of what you read each day.

With one or two classmates, create a commercial to promote your book. Be sure to share about the events and characters that would entice others to read the book. You can perform the commercial in front of the class or make a videotape.

Body/Kinesthetic

Create a dramatization of one or two scenes fromyour book. You can create the dramatization by creating a drama and producing it or by videotaping it. Tell why youchose the scenes and howthey are important in thestory.

Create a short video of one or two scenes from your book.

Create a game board using one of the themes in the story. Use Kidspiration to map out your ideas.

Create an impersonation of one of the characters in the book. You can perform your impersonation live in front of the class or video tape it.

Verbal/Linguistic

Create a poem about the events of the story or amain character.

Logical/Mathematical

Using Clicker 5 or Word create a timeline that describes the importantevents of the story.

Create a survey to determine which character students think are themost important in the book and why do they think that these characters are important.Base your questions on morals and ethics. Share the results orally, or use PowerPoint, Clicker 5, Kurzweil.

Using Kurzweil, Clicker 5, WordQ and Word or Speak Q describe a cause and effect event in the story. Describe how one event causes another event to happen.

Visual/Spatial

Read chapters traditionally or use Kurzweil to read the chapters. Extract information about each character by using a graphic organizer or highlight using the highlighters and export information regarding one of the characters into a word document.

Remember to put your name and date on your paper.

Draw a picture of the character using freehand or ‘Paint’. Beneath the character list at least 3 character traits of this character. You can list the character traits using a taperecorder, Clicker 5, Speak Q, Word or Kurzweil.

Give details from the text to explain these character traits

Draw or paint your favorite character or scene in the story.You can do this freehand or use ‘Paint’. Around the artwork, addwords that explain what you think is special orimportant about thecharacter.

Record at least 4 unknown words from the text you are reading. You can do this by using the record the word record sheet, You can use the worksheet in Kurzweil, or Word. Record the word, what you think the word means, clues you had to use to make your guess and the insert the correct definition from the dictionary.

Create a pantomime of one character in the book that shows some of the things that they do. Take digital pictures or make drawings of the character in the book and create a scrapbook or a PowerPoint that describes what they do. Your PowerPoint should contain no less than 10 slides.

Create a story board for the book you are reading. Fold your paper into at least 4 sections. Illustrate each square using free hand, clip art or your own drawings in ‘Paint’. Write at least one sentence to explain each picture.

Record chapter summaries by readingassigned chapters. You can read the chapters by listening to audiotapes and MP3’s or use Kurzweil to read the chapters. Extract information about each chapter by using a graphic organizer or highlight using the highlighters and export information regarding one of the characters into a Word document. Remember to put your name and date on your paper.

Write a rap or song thattells about one or moreevents in your story.You can choose toperform it live or videoor audio tape it.

Make a collage that represents a theme, character, or an event in the story. Use a tape recorder or a video camera to explain the representations.

Intrapersonal

Imagine that you are themain character in yourstory. Create a series ofdiary entries (eitherwritten on paper or in Kurzweil or tape recorded)that tell about some of themain events and how youfeel about them.

Interpersonal

With one or two classmates, create acommercial to promoteyour book. Be sure toshare about the eventsand characters that wouldentice others to read thebook. You can perform the commercial in front of the class or make a videotape.

Make a tape-recorded interview of someone in your class. Have them portray one of the characters in the novel. Ask them questions about their role in the story. What made them do what they did? Why did they do it? How do they feel about what they did? Be sure to have your questions ready before you start the interview.

Create a Memory Box– memory boxes contain personal items that are important to their owner. They are usually made of wood. You may use a shoebox or another type of container to make your memory box. Create a memory box for a character of your choosing. You should have at least five items in the box.Your memory box should show that you are familiar with the plot and the characters in the story. Possible items that could go into your memory box are as follows: letters, photographs, postcards and souvenirs.

Naturalist

Using recycled objects, create a three-dimensionalscene from yourbook. Tell about why thescene is important in thedevelopment of the story(orally or in writing).

Social Sciences (Map skills):

Map the geographical area where the story is located. You can do this freehand or by copying a map into Clicker 5, Kurzweil or Word. Mark the names of three towns/cities that are close by, any major waterways, mountains etc. Record two websites that you used to obtain information that you added to your map.
