April 2012

LEADERS, LEGENDS & LOVELIES Exhibit & LEGENDS BALL Celebrating the good, positive & outstanding within our LGBT community, The Unity Coalition|Coalicion Unida LEADERS, LEGENDS& LOVELIES© Lectures & Exhibits strive to focus on just that -
Binging lecturers from all walks of life in the LGBT & friends of community, the events focus on the similarities rather than the differences we all share, and how we can inspire others to do good, excel, be proud of who they are & just be better people.
The UC|CU lectures are presented year round, and the 2011 exhibit has had its home at the Art Deco Welcome Center on Miami Beach's Ocean Drive, thanks to the generosity and cooperation of the Miami Design Preservation League to coincide with Miami Beach PRIDE.

Luncheon hosted by Emilio Estefan at Bongos, Miami - with L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaregiosa to discuss LGBT Leadership & issues of concern in the community.

UC|CU’s Herb Sosa Hosted a U.S. Department of Labor Roundtable Workshop with Wage and Hour Division Acting Administrator Nancy Leppink with the LGBT Community about the Family and Medical Leave Act.

The purpose of this roundtable is to have an informal conversation with Nancy Leppink and the LGBT Community Leaders on the Family and Medical Leave Act’s important protections for all families, including those led by grandparents and others acting in loco parentis.

UC|CU Hosted a U.S. State Department and Miami Council for International Visitors (MCIV) visit by Latin American LGBT Leaders. We were honored to be the only South Florida organization asked to present our programming, exchange ideas and establish ongoing dialogues with over a dozen activists, politicians & community leaders from Central & South America as part of their 5 city fact-finding tour of the U.S.

Raquel Matas, Esq. (family and religion), Maria Mejia (women & HIV), Max Brava (Binational couples & immigration), Walker Burttschell (DADT) and Herb Sosa all met with and exchanged ideas with this incredible group of individuals.

Celebrate ORGULLO | Oct 6 | Miami Beach

UC|CU is proud to produce the Annual Celebrate ORGULLO Festival.

Started in 2011, Celebrate ORGULLO is a Festival of Hispanic LGBT Pride - the First Event of its kind in the U.S. With attendance well over 5,000 for the first year…our programming, advertising, community outreach, partnership with the City of Miami Beach, sanctioned events and entertainment lineup for 2012, we completely expect our numbers to more than double, covering demographics in every category, age, orientation, ethnic and economic bracket.

The event is free and open to the public and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of food and beverages will benefit our LGBT Youth Scholarship Fund and year round programming of the Unity Coalition|Coalicion Unida, Inc. Related ORGULLO Events this year included the SoBe Mens Fashion Show and Art Exhibit on Friday, Oct. 5th, various ORGULLO Dance Competitions around town, the ORGULLO Leadership Conference on Saturday morning.

to collect donations for those affected by
Hurricane Sandy
Miami, Florida... "Unity Coalition|Coalicion Unida is proud to be doing this. We have always tried to do our best to help other
communities in times of need, and this is no exception" said
UC|CU board member Michael Stein. Stein is also co-owner of
Jamboree Lounge, who along with the Art Deco Welcome
Center and Physician Consultants, have joined forces with
UC|CU to provide drop-off locations across South Florida.

Along with its collection efforts, UC|CU has also identified the
American Red Cross, AmeriCares, The Humane Society and
the Ali Forney LGBT Youth Center as the charities of choice for its Latino|Hispanic|LGBT membership to consider.
