Minutes of the 6/11/08 General Membership Meeting
The Rogers City Sail & Power Squadron’s monthly meeting of the general membership was held at the Presque Isle County District Library on Wednesday, June 11, 2008. Ten members and 1 guest were present. Commander Marianne Bock S brought the meeting to order at 1900 hours and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary P/C R. Philip Brown AP was absent. The Treasurer’s report was presented and approved.
EDUCATIONAL OFFICER’S REPORT – P/C Richard Lappin JN
- Basic Boating Class held in Rogers City – 4 attended – 4 passed
- Basic Boating Class to be held at Presque Isle July 5 & 12, 2008
- Newspapers and Media have been notified to advertise July class
- No action in regard to advanced courses
EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S, VSC CHAIR’S AND SAFETY OFFICER’S REPORT – Lt/C David Bock S
- Vessel Safety Checks this Spring – 8 passed – 2 failed
- P/C R. Phil Brown AP will be reinstated as VSO – forms sent out
- Wooden Boat Show – June 21 – Squadron will be represented along with vessel safety checks being made available to boaters in the harbor
- Squadron will try and have a boat available with items on display in the boat in regard to what is needed to pass a vessel safety check
- Lt/C Mark Kinney S explained and presented a plan for the display at the wooden boat show
- Flyer hand-outs available from State Farm– “Water Wise”
- It was suggested to Lt/C Mark Kinney S to add a “Port Cruising Blog” to the web site. P/C Richard Lappin JN will get together with Beach Hall and write additional information for Mark
OLD BUSINESS-
- 9 persons attended and passed the CPR class presented by the Red Cross
- Conservation Fair May 30, 2008 – Power Squadron presentation and State Police Divers were well received
NEW BUSINESS-
- July and August - no General Membership Meeting
- Thank you expressed to Lt/C Mark Kinney S and P/C R Philip Brown AP for taking care of the set-up for the Wooden Boat Show
- Squadron will again greet the Double Handed Sailors who finish their race in Rogers City June – 29-30. P/C Richard Lappin JN will check schedule and keep Squadron informed as to approximate time boats will be arriving at the Rogers City Harbor
- Chamber of Commerce has asked for a donation for awards for the Double Handed Sailors. Motion made by P/C Richard Lappin JN to give Chamber of Commerce $45.00. 2nd by Lt/C Mark Kinney S. Motion carried unanimously.
- New Tech crew will be working on the security camera at the Rogers City Harbor
