Content Standard:
4.  Determine the correlation of personal preference, education, and training to the demands of the workforce.
a.  Select a personal career goal based upon results of interest and aptitude assessments.
b.  Investigate employee benefits and incentives related to identified career choices. Examples: medical insurance options, retirement benefits, life insurance options, long-and short-term disability insurance options.
c.  Calculate net pay from a given gross salary by subtracting required and non-required deductions.
d.  Utilize advanced database features )i.e., merging, sorting, filtering, formulas) to examine the effect of career choice on lifestyle, including how interest, ability, and educational achievement relate to the attainment of personal, social, educational, and career goals.

Overview/Annotation:
In this lesson personal career goals will be set based on the students’ assessments – interest and aptitude. This will provide students with a picture of where they are going and what they need to do to get there.

Learning Objective(s): The students will:

3.  Complete an aptitude assessment.

Materials:
1.  Paper
2.  Pen or pencil
3.  KUDER assessment report (students should download and print)

Procedures/Activities:
1.  Class Discussion: Discuss careers. Ask students to list on a sheet of paper their top three careers.
2.  Activity #1 – KUDER assessment report – be sure that students have downloaded and printed a copy of their individual plans. Have the students compare the careers they listed on their paper with the results on the report.
3.  Assignment #2 – Students will log-in to their KUDER account, using www.alcareerinfo.org, and search the jobs that match their assessment report. Have students give feedback from their findings – call for volunteers.
4.  Activity #2 – Career Aptitude Test – www.yourfreecareertest.com - have students go to the website to take the assessment. Students will record the results from the assessment and compare with KUDER results.
