UNIT 3 Lesson 7: Video Tour: Origins of Theater

All lessons adapted from the Louisiana ELA Guidebook and are aligned with Common Core Standards.

LEARNING TARGET: Students will learn about the origins of theater in Greek culture as well as important details of early play performance. Students will take takes and quiz on key elements, using teacher-created partial notes.

TYPES OF LEARNING:Knowledge, conceptual understanding, complex texts
THEMATIC UNIT CONNECTION:Background of Shakespeare's 5-act drama; origins of drama

ROUTINE PROCEDURES:

  • Bellringer: Have students review incomplete notes, explain that videos can be backed up and repeated as needed.
  • Notebooks: Students use Unit/Lesson with date to keep notes in notebooks. Students must also collect 90 words/9 weeks from reading, inside and outside of class.

LESSON SUMMARY:

1)21st: Students watch video, take notes as able using incomplete note sets. Students should note times needed for ease of repetition.

Repeat and Reteach

2)WC/TT: Students request repeat/review of video. Students take 5 minutes to share notes with their talks teams.

ASSESSMENT: Students will take a formal quiz based on notes taken. This will complete Unit 3 (Othello).
