UNIT 1 PROJECT – EARTH SYSTEMS

BRING THIS WITH YOU WHEN YOU TURN THE PROJECT IN!

Unit 1 focuses on the four earth systems (hydrosphere, atmosphere, geosphere, and bioshpere) and how they interact with one another. This project is intended to get you to think about the importance of each system and how a change in one system might affect another system.

You will have a choice between two projects. Each project will have a visual component and a written component. You will have one class period in which to work on this assignment, any additional time you need must be done at home.

PROJECT 1 – TERRARIUM

Visual - Create a terrarium that represents all 4 systems.

Written – Write 2-3 paragraphs answering the following questions

1.  How are each of the 4 earth systems presented in your terrarium?

2.  Is the system open or closed? Explain

3.  What would happen if you altered one of the systems in your terrarium? Give a specific example (i.e. what would happen if you added too much CO2 to the atmosphere?)

PROJECT 2 – ADVERTISEMENT

Visual – Create a brochure, poster, song, skit or other visual aid that shows the importance of your system

Written – Within your visual answer the following questions – if your visual is a song or skit, please make sure to have a written component that answers the questions

1.  Define your system – Identify at least 5 characteristics that make up the system

2.  Explain why the system is important – Give detail – Don’t just say that the atmosphere is important because it gives us Oxygen – Dig Deeper
