Special warning

This telephone is intended for connection to the UK analogue telephone network. You need a standard analogue home phone line with either pulse or tone dialling. In an office with a digital phone system, you may need to modify your line. Contact your telephone installer to be sure your line supports a standard single-line home telephone (this is the same kind of line you need for a fax or computer modem).

General description

Your new Uniphone 1150™ telephone can also be used as a text telephone (minicom).

You can make telephone calls, text-telephone calls, or text-telephone calls with voice carry-over (VCO). For a voice call, pick up the handset and use the Uniphone 1150 just like a regular telephone. For a text-telephone call, press the TTY on/off key and type. To use VCO, pick up the handset at any time during your call. Other features of the Uniphone 1150: Auto-answer answers the telephone when you are busy or away and takes text-telephone messages.

Auto ID™ alert system tells a hearing person that you are calling by text telephone. Battery backup allows you to use the Uniphone 1150 during a power failure. The battery will power the Uniphone 1150 for an hour if the electricity goes off. Call progress displays “ring”, “engaged”, or “line unobtainable” on the display to let you know what is happening on the phone line. A built-in greeting message lets you send out a quick “Hello GA.” The voice announcer tells a hearing person to use a text telephone. A ringer and personal indicator both signal a call.

Turbo Code® communication sends signals to other Turbo Codeequipped text telephones as fast as you can type. Turbo Code allows you to interrupt the other person while he or she is typing. Turbo Code also allows you to use the wait for response feature.

Requires 9V battery one of hour of power during a power cut(not included).

At the end of these 3 rows on the right there are function keys. On the first row (under the numbers) on the right is the plus or equals key (use shift for plus sign). The row below starting at the right going left: return key then quotation mark or apostrophe (use shift for quotation mark). Below this row starting from the right to left: Shift key (also located at opposite end of row), question mark and forward slash (use shift for question mark), colon or full stop (use shift for colon) and then semi-colon or comma (use shift for semi-colon).

Using the product

Set-up

All you do when setting up the Uniphone is plug it in. You can also install a battery if you want to use the Uniphone during a power failure (see installing battery section).

Please note: Use only the included AC adapter with the Uniphone. Using another AC adapter may damage the Uniphone. Damage caused by another AC adapter will void your warranty.

Installing battery

Installing a battery will allow you to use the Uniphone continuously for an hour during a power failure. A battery also saves any settings or message changes if there is a power failure. Use a 9-volt alkaline battery. The battery compartment is on the bottom of the Uniphone. Follow the steps below to install a battery.

Unscrew the battery cover and remove the cover. The screw is small so place it somewhere safe. (You may find it easier to turn the unit over for the cover to come out once the screw is undone.

Take the battery and locate the end with the raised pieces. Inside the phone’s battery compartment is a plastic piece (the battery connector) attached to 2 wires. Gently pull this piece out and notice the 2 raised rounds on it. Align the smaller raised round on the battery with the larger one on the battery connector piece. Then align the other. Gently push the battery into the battery connector piece to connect.

Once connected, replace the battery cover with the edge opposite the screw hole first. Locate this into the back edge of the compartment closest to the back of the unit.Screw the screw back into the unit

Plugging in power and the telephone line

To plug in the telephone line:

  • Take the telephone cord and locate the end with the smallest connector. Plug this into the back of the unit in the far left socket with the plastic tab of the connector pointing down towards the work surface.
  • Plug the other end of the telephone cord into the wall’s telephone socket. Ensure it is inserted the correct way around.

To plug in the power:

  • Plug the AC adapter's power cord connector into the power socket on the back of the unit at the right.
  • Plug the AC adapter into an electrical point and turn on the mains.

Press the TTY on/off key to turn on the Uniphone 1150. You will see “Uniphonereset” and then the screen will show: Uniphone-1150 by Ultratec. This is the ready screen. You see it whenever you are not using the Uniphone. This display means the telephone is hung up and the text telephone is off.

What kind of telephone line?

Please note: Do not plug the Uniphone into any line other than a standard telephone line. If you do, you may damage your telephone system or the Uniphone. You will also void your warranty.

The setting returns to minimum after you hang up to protect your hearing. You must change the setting each time you make a call.

Inductive coupler

This feature of the Uniphone improves the sound quality for people who use hearing aids. When you want to make or answer a call, switch your hearing aid to ‘T’. Adjust the handset volume until you get the best sound quality.

Turning off the ringer

You can adjust the ringer volume from low to high or turn off the ringer entirely.

On the back of the Uniphone, there is a ringer switch (right from the telephone line socket). Move the switch to the setting you prefer: far left is ringer off, middle position is low, and then the right position is high.
