UNION COUNTY VARSITY BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

RULES & REGULATIONS

1.  All schools making entry to the tournament will participate. This is an open tournament.

2.  All umpires will be assigned by the committee. The team whose field is being used for the game will pay the umpires in all preliminary, first round, and quarter final games. The fee for these games is $70.00 per official. The conference will pay for the semi-final and final games. The home team will supply baseballs for all preliminary, first round and quarter final games. The conference will supply baseballs for the semi-finals and finals.

3.  The eligibility requirements of the NJSIAA will govern all participants in the tournament.

4.  The baseball rules of the National High School Federation will be the official rules of the tournament.

5.  The scorebook of the home team will be the official book. The ground rules will be those of the particular playing field being used.

6.  Games should not be postponed for any reason other than inclement weather or wet grounds. This decision rests with the team on whose field the game is to be played. In the event the game is to be played on a neutral field, the athletic director at that school will determine if the field is playable.

7.  Games will be played at the field of the higher seeded team unless other arrangements are mutually agreed to by the schools involved. The higher seeded team will be the home team up until the finals. The home team for all finals will be determined by a coin toss. The team winning the coin toss will also have choice of benches.

8.  In the event of conflict or excessive inclement weather, the committee reserves the right to schedule games in the best interest of the tournament. It is the responsibility of the team on whose field the game is played to contact the umpires if the game is postponed. You will be notified in advance as to who is working the game.

  • Enclosed is your 2009 Union County Varsity Baseball Tournament information packet.
  • It is very important that the entry form is faxed to the Elizabeth Athletic Office on April 27, 2009 before 3 p.m. The fax number is 908 – 436-6686 If you choose to call in your record and results, be sure to speak to Ray Korn or Helen Berlinski at 908-436-6689 #1. Please do not leave a message on the voice mail.
  • In the event only 16 teams enter the tournament, the committee may extend the cut-off date to Thursday, April 30, 2009. Information will be sent over the internet and via mail.
  • If there is a question due to inclement weather for the semi-final/final games, please call (908) 558-8038 after 8 a.m. on the scheduled playing day.
  • Once again, this year’s semi-final and final round will be played at Williams Field in Elizabeth . Semi Finals 12pm and 3pm. Finals 2:00pm

This form will serve as your entrance to the Union County Varsity Baseball Tournament. Please fax your record to (908) 436-6686 on Monday, April 28th.
