A PERSONAL
The personal “a” in Spanish is when “a” is placed before the direct object in a sentence when it is a person. This is used so that the direct object is not confused with the subject. The “a” can also be used when the direct object is a pet. The “a” is not used with the verbs tener, ser, or estar. The personal a and the masculine, singular form of “the” combine to form “al.”
EX: Juan no conoce a mi padre. Carlos es mi primo.
No vemos al maestro en la clase. Diego tiene seis hermanos.
