Undeclared Student Program Objective:

Academic advising is an important component of your academic career that can positively impact your academic progress. We are dedicated to promoting academic success by collaborating with you to:

Explore and confirm your major of interest by assessing your skills, talents, abilities, and values

Think critically about educational and life choices, set academic and personal goals, and confidently make sound decisions

Evaluate and develop your academic skills

Monitor your academic progress and understand important university policies

Required Materials at Each Advising Session:

Advising Portfolio (you will create your own with instructions provided)

Organizer or planner

Notepad or paper

Writing utensil(s)

All additional materials & forms given to you during advising sessions

Student Responsibilities:

Attendance: You are expected to schedule and attend two advising sessions per quarter (unless otherwise specified by your advisor). You are expected to be on timeand be preparedfor scheduled advising appointments. If you cannot attend your appointment, call / email ahead within 24 hours oras soon as possible to reschedule your advising session.

Assignments: All assignments must be completed and turned in as specified by your advisor. Page 2 of the Advising Syllabus gives you an overview of the advising sessions and what will be expected of you; however, your advisor may make some changes based on your specific needs and progress.

Maintain Good Academic Standing: Undeclared students are required to declare a major within 3 quarters according to university policy. As an Undeclared student, you must submit a petition to declare a major by the 6th week of the Spring 2014 quarter or you will not be able to register for the Fall 2015 quarter. Your academic performance as an Undeclared student will determine your ability to declare a major within 3 quarters. Good academic standing per university regulations is 2.0 or higher GPA. You may be able to declare a major with a 2.0 or higher GPA as long as the major is not impacted. Some major departments may have additional criteria you must meet before you can submit a petition to declare.
