F. About the BSI , BSI-Asia Initiative, and WFTO-Asia

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and business schools worldwide are leading a new initiative called Business Schools for Impact (BSI) to encourage and train business students to invest and operate in developing regions and generate positive social and economic impact locally. In Asia, a Business Schools for Impact Asia (BSI-Asia) initiative is being pursued in partnership with the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA) and WFTO-Asia.
To facilitate these objectives, a Business Schools for Impact (BSI) Network, of which ISEA is a part, has been set up to bring together business school students from around the world and social enterprises in developing regions to share experiences, courses, methods, and professional opportunities. Through this network, a number of business students from around the world selected by UNCTAD will have access to internships with social enterprises and Fair Trade Organizations that volunteer to host them.

For further information, please visit:

This program is open to all WFTO-Asia members. WFTO-Asia is the regional body of dedicated Fair Trade Organsiations as part of the WFTO-Asia volunteer Internship Program

Note: This project will only facilitate the linkage between the students and the Fair Trade Organisations selected to host the internship. Interns are not financially remunerated by UNCTAD or WFTO-Asia and will not be considered to be contracted in any way. The costs associated will be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government which may provide the required financial assistance, or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa applications and other costs and duties associated with the internship. Participating Fair Trade Organisatons will observe the compliance of the terms of the internship with immigration, labour and other regulations of their countries. ISEA may provide assistance to the students with these requirements.
