Criteria for Awards

1.Purpose & Spirit of the Dale Farm ‘2012 Dream’ Sports Award:

1.1The aim of the Dale Farm‘2012 Dream’ Sports Award is to provide significant support to Northern Ireland’s most talented young sports individuals. Ultimately, the Award is to be a springboard helping the winner to perform at the Olympic Games.

1.2The bursary fund is therefore to be used directly and specifically to further the winner’s sporting career and development.

2.Bursary Value:

2.1Dale Farm will provide a bursary of £5000.

2.2This will be awarded to the individual identified as the ‘outstanding sports person’ in line with the Dale Farm ‘2012 Dream’ Sports Award criteria.

3. The Winner:

3.1There will be a single winner each year.

3.2This will be the sports person judged to have demonstrated sporting excellence, promise and potential to participate at Olympic level

4. Eligibility:

4.1To be considered, nominees must be affiliated to a sport recognised as an official Olympic or Paralympic event.

5.Application Procedure:

5.1Nominations should be submitted to the Mary Peters Trust on the approved nomination form and must be legible, preferably typed or printed in black ink.

5.2Additional nomination forms may be downloaded from

5.3Nomination forms should be signed by:

-the nominee (or parent/guardian if nominee is under 18), and

-the nominator (if different to the nominee).

5.4The Governing Body report must be signed by the liaison officer.

5.5Closing date for entries is Friday 13 May 2011.

6.Role of Governing Bodies:

61.Each nomination must include a written statement from the Governing Body’s liaison officer.

6.2This statement should aim to inform the Selection Committee of the applicant’s ability, potential, need and commitment in relation to the criteria.

6.3 The Governing Body of the winning individual shall liaise with the Trust to ensure that the bursary is administered in accordance with the Mary Peters Trust criteria and the overall purpose of the Award.

7. Adjudication:

7.1The Mary Peters Trust will be responsible for assessing all nominations.

7.2The winner will be selected by the Trust and Dale Farm.

7.3The winner will be announced inJune 2011.

7.4The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

8. Publicity:

8.1The winner of the Award shall be required to take part in promotional/PR activity – upon receiving the Award and at further reasonable opportunities/occasions.

8.2As this is a valuable – and potentially life-changing award – the winner is asked to acknowledge the Dale Farm ‘2012 Dream’ Sports Award during any media opportunities – paying credit to the Dale Farm bursary and Dale Farm as sponsor and Mary Peters Trust where and when possible.

8.3Publicity opportunities will be arranged at a mutually convenient time and location for all parties.

8.4To support and inform potential publicity opportunities, the winner shall provide a brief progress report to the Mary Peters Trust every three months. Winners are also required to provide the Trust with advance notice of high profile competitions/events in which they are participating.
