UF College of Dentistry
DMD Class of 2019
Code of Conduct
Love. "Love is life And if you miss love, you miss life." - Leo Buscaglia
Love is defined as a strong affection for a person, or as a feeling of warmattachment, enthusiasm, or devotion However, to define love as a mere feeling would be an injustice.
Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. We, as the Class of 2019, will make the choice to show true and genuine love to not only one another, but also to all of the people that our lives touch.
Health. "He who enjoys good health is rich, though he knows it not' - Italian Proverb
As future dental professionals we will strive to promote health through educating our patients on the importance of maintaining quality oral and systemic health. In order to be role models of living a healthy lifestyle, we must personally strive to sustain a proper balance among mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing in our own lives. By maintaining our personal health, we ensure longevity in our dental careers and can continue to impact members of the community through providing quality oral health care.
Honesty "Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” Thomas Jefferson
Veracity and transparency will guide each of us to confidently make
decisions and resist any temptations we may face in our dental career and in life. Our success in the dental profession is dependent upon our ability to be honest with our patients, family, fellow colleagues, and ourselves. It is honesty paired with integrity that will allow the dental profession to continue upholding high ethical standards.
Personal Growth/Learning. "Good, better, best, never let it rest. Never settle ‘til your good is better and better is best. Tim Duncan
Personal growth and lifelong learning will be the path we follow to ensure that each tomorrow will leave an impact greater than the day before. The world is ever-changing and we will strive to be leaders that inspire it to change for the better.
We commit to being lifelong learners in every aspect of our lives, so that the quality of the care we provide is not only represented by the knowledge we have obtained, but from the character we have personallydeveloped. We commit to being self-evaluators who are never satisfied enough to stop learning, growing, pursuing, loving, changing, and inspiring.
Integrity. "Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful. "
- Samuel Johnson
To be a source of unquestioned authenticity in an otherwise uncertain world, and to perform no act disingenuous in nature. Integrity provides us a universal platform for comparison regarding every decision we will make as healthcare practitioners, and to fulfill in practice what is stated in print. Individually, we incorporate this trait into our self-identity, so that professionally we may rely on our values to serve as leaders, contributors, and role models in our communities. As the class of 2019, we agree to embrace and uphold the highest standards, principles, and expectations inherent to this world.
Final Statement We, the UFCD Class of 2019, promise to allow these core values to shape our lives in such a way that allows us to administer the best dental care we can to our patients, and to set an example worthyof following to our communities.
