The PAL Program: PAL (Partners in Acquiring Language) pairs international students and U.S. students for casual conversation practice for one hour every week. Through informal conversation, international students develop their English language skills and knowledge of American culture, while developing friendships over the course of the quarter. Not only do international students learn about English and local culture, but the U.S. students also learn a lot about the international student’s native language and culture as well.

UC Extension has offered English language, technical and professional training to international clients for more than 30 years. Several programs are available, such as Intensive English, American Culture and Communication Program, and many others.

ESL Classes - All Levels. These low-fee classes provide students with the opportunity to increase their use and understanding of everyday American English. All levels will emphasize conversational skills, but also will include grammar, listening comprehension and vocabulary expansion. The registration fee only $120 per 10-week term. Please note that the Davis Adult School runs on a slightly different schedule to UC Davis. Enrollment is open throughout the quarter. Both day and evening classes are offered.

I-House offers several English conversation groups each week, both day and evening. There is no fee, although participants must be I-House members. Annual membership fees are $20 for registered students, and $40 for individual scholars. You may join a conversation group at any time. Scheduled classes meet at the International House and conversation classes can also be arranged in private homes.
