On the basis of Article 8 of the Agreement between the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Registry for Section I for War Crimes and Section II for Organised Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Criminal and Appellate Divisions of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and for the Special Department for Ware Crimes and the Special Department for Organised Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as on the creation of the Transitional Council (Official Gazette of BiH, No. 93/06), (hereinafter “the Registry Agreement”) and in accordance with its competences pursuant to Article 17, items 1 and 2 and Article 36 of the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (“Official Gazette of BiH”, Nos: 25/04 and 93/05) and Article 2 of the Book of Rules on the Procedure for the Selection and Appointment of International Judges and Prosecutors, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina announces the following:

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT FOR VACANCIES

in the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as follows:

1. One (1) international prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of theProsecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, vacancy announcement no: BIHPOWC-intl-1007

2. Two (2) international prosecutors of the Special Department for Organized Crimes,

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Applicants shall fulfill the basic requirements as prescribed by Article 8 of the Registry Agreement, and Article 5 of the Book of Rules on the Procedure for the Selection and Appointment of International Judges and Prosecutors of the High Judicial and Prosecuotrial Council, as follows:

  • that he/she is not a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina or any of the neighbouring countries;
  • that he/she possesses at least 8 years of experience as a judge, prosecutor or defence attorney working on complex criminal cases;
  • specific experience in working on war crime cases, commercial crime cases and fraud is particularly desirable;
  • knowledge in the field of international criminal lawdesirable;
  • that he/she has a proven record of impartiality and an excellent performance recordin previous employment (proven by, for example, performance evaluations, acknowledgments, commendations or similar);
  • that he/she is fluent in English, or Bosnian or Croatian or Serbian.

In evaluating the candidate, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council shall give consideration to the following criteria:

  • professional knowledge, work experience and performance;
  • capacity through academic written works and other profession activities;
  • professional ability as based on previous career results, including participation in

organised forms of training;

  • work capability and capacity for analysing legal problems;
  • ability to perform impartially, conscienciously, diligently, decisively and responsibly the

duties of the office for which he/she is being considered;

  • communication abilities;
  • relations with colleagues, conduct out of office, integrity and reputation.

Along with your application aletter should be submitted indicating that you wish to

applyfor the position of international judge or international prosecutor, stating the

reference number of the vacancy announcement.

The vacancy announcement shall be published on the website of the Council as well as in the “Official Gazette of BiH”, and shall be delivered to all embassies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and other institutions in accordance with the Registry Agreement.

Applicants are advised to read carefully Article 8 of the Registry Agreement which can be accessed on the website of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council as stated above.

The vacancy announcement shall remain open until October 31, 2007. Applications submitted after the said deadline shall not be taken into consideration.
