Tyrrell’s – our story from seed to chip.Here at Tyrrell’s we grow our own potatoes within a forty kilometer radius of our farm. We grow selected older varieties such as Lady Claire and Lady Rosetta that are renowned for their delicious taste.
Harry, Paddy, and the farm team harvest between July and October. Herefordshire is an ideal county for growing potatoes, and on a good day we can harvest up to five hundred tons. Once lifted, excess soil and foliage is removed from the conveyor. This particular variety is Lady Rosetta, our early crop planted by the team in February. Once sorted, the potatoes are loaded into the trailer and start to make their way back to Tyrrells Court Farm.
Back at the farm we grade the potatoes according to size and quality check the crop. The potatoes are stored in traditional wooden potato crates and await the call from production.
We wash and brush peel our potatoes, then slice them thickly into sunflower oil, retaining all their delicious potatoey taste. Rejects are plucked out, and all natural seasonings are sprinkled on the warm, golden chips before they are weighed into their respective pack sizes.
We’ve won over seventeen great taste awards for our range, and we’re delighted to say that our Naked chips have won two gold medals over the years. In fact, they’re almost as naked as the day they were dug from the ground.
We’re proud to supply over three thousand customers in the UK and sell Tyrrell’s to fifteen international markets. Today, however, we’re simply delivering to a handful of neighbouring farm shops in Herefordshire. Tyrrell’s from seed to chip — we hope you enjoyed our story.
