I.
Attendance and Enrollment of Cadets

(See Attachment #2)

Overall/Deputy Commander Duties

*Must keep an up-to-date and active roster on which cadets are present or absent to drill.

*Must report to the Overall Drill Commander monthly with the number of active cadets showing up to practices.

*Keep a typed list of all cadets who are enrolled in drill and differentiate the Varsity (A-Team) and JV (B-Team) cadets either on the same roster or on different typed sheets.

*Must be passing all classes, and live the Air Force Corps Values.

Cadet Duties

*Cadets must attend 90% of all practices to be on a competition team. This is also required to earn the drill team ribbon.

*Cadets must maintain AFJROTC grooming standards while participating on the Drill team. Cadets will have three warnings on grooming or standards before a removal from the drill team.

*Cadets must be passing AFJROTC as well as all other classes to participate in competitions, and cadets that are failing or need tutoring will be sent to an Academic NCO or tutor within the Corps or outside the corps.

*Cadets that show up absent or late will be taken into account when selecting final competition teams.

II.
Management of Drill Practices
Drill Commander Duties

·  Take attendance and check roster

·  Arrange practices on designated drill practice days which are Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays

·  Follow time increments

·  Follow designated drill practice procedure

When marching out to the designated drill pad

Varsity (A-Team)-

Will be formed on the commanders (right) side of the classroom, and will file out from the right with the following command.

*Column the files from the right forward, march*

JV (B-Team)-

Will be formed on the commanders (left) side of the classroom, and the Deputy CC in charge of JV will call the following command after the varsity team has completely left the classroom.

*Column the files from the left forward, March*

When marching inside to the classroom

Varsity (A-Team)-

Will file back into the classroom as they were seated previously before the practice and stand by his/her seat at parade rest.

JV (B-Team)-Will file back into the classroom as they were seated previously before the practice after the varsity team has entered the classroom. Deputy CC will report to CC with

“Sir Bravo-Team reports in from unarmed drill practice

CC: “carry-on”, Deputy gives (B) “seats”. Then CC takes command and checks last minute topics and dismisses the team.

III.

Varsity Team (A) and JV Team (B)

“Blue Knights” “Silver Knights”

Varsity (A):

Consists of cadets who are highly skilled, competition worthy, highly confident and dedicated drillers.

Requirements….

*Must pass all three phases of drill team testing. See P.13 for more.

*Must be within grooming standards of AFJROTC

*Must be passing all classes

*Must attend 90% of ALL drill practices on time and present.

*Must abide by all school rules in and out of AFJROTC

*Not a permanent position (changes may and can be made)

The Unarmed Drill Commander is the commander of the varsity team

Junior Varsity (B):

Consists of cadets who are average or below average skilled drillers that need drill assistance and training.

*Must attend 90% of ALL drill practices

*Must be within grooming standards of AFJROTC

*Must be passing all classes

*Must abide by all school rules in and out of AFJROTC

The Deputy Unarmed Drill Commander is the Commander of the Junior Varsity Team

IV.

Procedures

4:00-

·  All cadets must be at their designated side of the classroom and seat at parade rest.

·  Drill CC must check attendance and give any announcements if needed.

4:10-

·  File out by team and head to designated drill pad.

DRILL PRACTICE

4:50-

·  Drill team will be sent back to the classroom for dismissal by drill CC.

5:00- Dismissal

The Drill Uniform

The competition drill uniform of TX-20023 AFJROTC unarmed drill will consist with the following…

*Issued AFJROTC blue short sleeve shirt

*Issued AFJROTC blue pants

*Issued AFJROTC bates dress shoes with taps

*Blue and white cord/rope on left shoulder

*Blue beret w/ AFJROTC insignia on the beret.

Cadets must be in grooming standards, and uniform standards before, during and at competition.

VI.

Competitions

If the unarmed drill team is to participate in any drill meets, these are the following standards…

*No less than 10 cadets entered in comp.

(Including the commander and guide-on bearer)

*All cadets must be within UIL Standards.

·  Must be passing all classes by the last or current marking period.

*All Cadets must be in grooming standards of AFJROTC

*All cadets must sign permission slip form.

Competitions could be held at various locations.

VII.

Competitions Con’t.

*Competitions could possibly be held at the following locations…

John Jay HS

Clark HS

Judson HS

And more..

Competition organization must be made at least 2 weeks previous to the date

Crucial Time deadlines, and competition times

Food/snacks arrangements- Contact booster club

Transportation- contact Sgt.Russ

Bus Assignments- assign by teams and elements

Uniform Dry Cleaning/Pressing- set deadlines for turn in.

Equipment Check- check every cadets equip.

VIII.

Ropes, Berets, Taps

The following will list the prerequisites to receive the following items while on the Unarmed Drill Team.

Ropes: To Receive a rope the cadet must a) Pass the given knowledge test by the commander (See attach.3)

b) Selected for an (A Team) position. Good until the next knowledge test, where you will be tested again and expected to maintain your knowledge and keep your rope, if not it will be taken away.

Berets: To receive a beret the cadet must be selected or placed on the (A Team). No other exceptions.

Taps: To receive taps the cadet must be selected or placed on the (A Team). No other exceptions.

BDUs: To Receive BDUs, the cadet must be an active member of the Unarmed Drill team, and pass the given knowledge test by the Commander.

Must be passing all classes to be a active member of drill team

X.  PHASES

There are three crucial phases that are imperative to the operation of the unarmed drill team.

Phase I

Phase I will consist of two full ran drill sequences.

After the two sequences are complete instructors or high-ranking cadets on the drill team will select a team for each cadet.

Phase II

Phase II will consist of the given knowledge test by the drill commander, and will be graded on the following scale.

90 or above - Pass (eligible for a varsity position)

89 or below- Fail (No longer eligible for a varsity position)

Throughout the year, the cadets must have plenty of opportunities to be tested on knowledge and drill standards.

*If you fail the knowledge test, you are automatically put on the junior varsity team)

A Study Guide with ranks, chain of command, AFJROTC/ROTC history and Air force standards must be issued.

Phase III

Phase III is the last and final phase. It is the Mock Inspection phase, where instructors will play T.Is and test the cadet’s knowledge under pressure, and their military bearing. Instructors and drill CCs will make final decisions on team members and analyze and assign teams within the week.
