Eco Warriors!
Congratulations to Miss White and the Eco Committee on successfully gaining our 4th Green Flag. It is a huge achievement and one which we’re all extremely proud of. Well done!
Open Hour
Thank you to all the 127 parent, carers, Grannies & Grandpas who came along to the Open Hour last month to share the wonderful learning and teaching that takes place in Dunlop Primary. Some of the activities in the classes included war time food rationing, spelling, designing and building houses and Active Reading strategies and it was great to see so many adults engaging in the learning with their children. From the positive written and verbal comments you gave us it is certainly something we will continue next session.
Health & Wellbeing
  • Well done to our P6 & P7 Netball team who came 2nd in the Partnership Heats last week where they displayed excellent team skills and sportsmanship and were a credit to the school. The Basketball heat was postponed due to the heavy snow and has been re-scheduled for the 3rd March. Our school participates in many sporting events throughout the session and we are looking to upgrade our image with a Dunlop Primary Sports Kit. If you know of any local company that would like to sponsor our kit then please contact the school asap. Thank you.
  • Two of our P7 pupils have been working alongside other P7 and S1 pupils from the Learning Partnership to create a Choices for Life video, promoting the correct choice to make with tobacco, drugs and alcohol. The video will be entered into the Police Scotland competition-good luck!
  • Road Safety has had a strong focus in the school this session with the help of our amazing Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) and the road safety message was reinforced to all our P6 pupils last week with a dramatization of ‘The Journey’ by the Baldy Bane Theatre Company.
  • Each class will be having a taster session of Tae Kwon Do on Monday 20th February which has been organised by Gordon Allan, our Active Schools Co-ordinator, to encourage the children to try a new sport and promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • During the fortnight beginning 24th April will be focussing on delivering the Relationship, Sexual Health and Parenting aspect of our Health & Wellbeing curriculum. We will have an information stall and parent/carer leaflets during the Parents Evenings in March explaining what will be taught at each stage. There will also be ‘drop in’ sessions available to parent/carers should they wish to discuss any concerns or issues about this on a one to one basis.

Rotary Quiz
Mastermind didn’t get a look in this week when 4 of our P7 pupils represented the school in the Kilmarnock Rotary Club’s Annual Quiz night, they excelled themselves and came 4th out of 14 teams. Well done!
Choir
The choir have been asked to perform at the Dunlop Church’s Family event on Sunday 26th February and we are delighted that 22 of our original choir members will be going along and supporting this community event. Please come along and hear us perform two new songs!
Learning Pod and Broadband/IT update
The good news is that the pod has been built and is ready to be installed, the bad news is that planning approval won’t be finalised until the end of February/beginning of March but the Planning Department are aware of our desperate need for this additional accommodation and will be doing everything they can to process the application as quickly as possible.
Progress with Broadband still on-going and BT are working away as we type!
Hopefully this will be resolved in the very near future.
Lego Club
The first block of Lego After School Club has finished and it was an amazing success; the children thoroughly enjoyed their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) challenges.
The second block is about to start.
Thank you to Mrs Ostler and her team of volunteers.
Blog
Please keep checking our Blog to see all the amazing learning that’s happening in our classes. Please take time to look at this month’s Wonderful Work post which celebrates the hard work, effort and commitment to learning that our children display.
