Twelve Angry Men Political Cartoon Assignment

Select a political cartoon that relates to the play based on theme or content. You must get approval for your cartoon before proceeding. No cartoons may be duplicated within each class. Complete the Cartoon Analysis Sheet. Then complete a typed, written response to the cartoon using the following guidelines:

  1. Paragraph 1- Identify the cartoonist, the date the cartoon was created or published, and the publication in which it appeared. What type of publication is this? (magazine, newspaper, religious pamphlet, tabloid. etc. ) How is the type of publication relevant to the cartoon? Is it ironic, appropriate, etc?
  2. Paragraph 2- Explain the picture in the cartoon. What is the artist’s message? What is the topic the artist is addressing? What does the artist want the viewing public to do about the cartoon’s topic?
  3. Paragraph 3- Agree or disagree with the artist’s point. Do you agree with the message? Do you disagree with the main point? Why or why not? Clearly explain your opinion of the topic. What action do you think the artist wants the public to take?
  4. Paragraph 4- Explain how this cartoon relates to the play Twelve Angry Men. What is the connection? How are the two similar? * This is the most important paragraph. *

Then, using the information above, create a PowerPoint presentation. Your Power Point should include the following:

Slide 1: the cartoon-must be clear enough to be seen by the entire class

Slide 2: information from #1 above

Slide 3: information from #2 above

Slide 4: information from #3 above

Slide 5: information from #4 above

DO NOT simply copy and paste your paragraphs into your Power Point. This would be way too much for us to read or WANT to read. Pick out the most important information and creatively and effectively place it on the slides. You may use more than one slide for each number if needed. But remember, this is your final, so it should be thorough and thought provoking.
