TUOLUMNE COUNTY 4-H ALL STAR INFORMATION

1.  Definition: All Star is the highest rank attainable in the county 4-H program. With it comes recognition, honor and responsibility. The All Star Team serves with the guidance of the All Star Advisor.

2.  Selection Criteria:

·  Will be completing at least 3 years of 4-H membership by July 1 of year applying

·  Achieved Gold Star rank by the time of application

·  Enrolled as a 4-H member when selected and eligible to enroll the following year

·  Will have completed at least the ninth grade by July 1 of year applying

3.  Member will show in written application and oral interview:

·  Leadership abilities, citizenship concern, and maturity of judgment in a variety of activities

·  Active interest in local and county-wide 4-H events and activities, new ideas and challenges

·  A strong interest in continuing in the 4-H program

·  Specific ideas as to ways in which applicant can give guidance and leadership in the 4-H program

·  Recognition of the responsibilities of being selected an All Star

·  Applicants should realize that meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee this honor.

4.  Written application to include:

·  Application form, Current Year Summary form and All Star Questionnaire

·  4-H record books showing involvement for at least the previous two years

·  Three letters of recommendation using supplied forms, from adults other than relative of applicant:

o  Local Community Club Leader

o  4-H project leader whose project applicant completed in the past two years

o  An adult outside 4-H (teacher, minister, employer, etc.)

5.  The selection committee will consist of past and present 4-H leaders, parents, and/or past All Stars who are familiar with the 4-H program and the qualities that an All Star should possess. The selection committee will evaluate the written materials submitted and conduct oral interviews on the date scheduled. Applicants should dress as for a job interview; they may wear the 4-H uniform.

6.  Responsibilities:

·  Attend All Star orientation

·  Attend California 4-H State Leadership Conference and report back to 4-H Council

·  Plan, organize and conduct Achievement Night. Participate in the next year’s Achievement Night program.

·  Chair the county Teen Leadership Retreat

·  Install club officers as requested

·  Make a presentation to the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors during National 4-H Week

·  Plan and present a session at LCORT (Leadership Conference of Regional Teens)

·  Serve as Emcee at county events and county-hosted regional events. All Stars may be called upon to give direction and guidance to various 4-H events and activities.

·  One member of the All Star Team, which includes the All Star Advisor, should attend the monthly Council meetings. If possible, one member of the All Star Team should attend the Sectional Council meetings.

·  Promote 4-H activities at the club level

·  Set an example and challenge the younger members to work toward the goals of 4-H

·  All Star term: July 1 through June 30

·  All Stars are encouraged to assist with 4-H activities in subsequent years as their time permits.

7.  Costs: Tuolumne County 4-H Council supplies each All Star with a star, pin, polo shirt and jacket. Council covers the registration fees for All Stars to attend State Leadership Conference and LCORT. The All Star may be responsible for transportation and travel costs. (rev 3/2017)

Completed written application package is due to the 4-H Office by 5:00 p.m. on May 1, 2017.

Upon receipt of complete written materials, applicant will be notified of time and place of oral interview with the selection committee.

I meet the selection criteria as outlined in the Tuolumne County All Star Information sheet. I am aware of the responsibilities and costs described.

I am submitting with this application the Current Year Summary Form and the All Star Questionnaire, and complete 4-H Record Books for at least the past two years. I have arranged for three confidential letters of recommendation by my Community Club Leader, a 4-H Project Leader whose project I completed in the past two years, and an adult outside 4-H. If my Community Club Leader or Project Leader is related to me, I have asked another active 4-H Leader as a substitute. I have provided them with the correct form and stamped, addressed envelopes so they can mail my recommendations directly to the 4-H Office by the due date listed above.

I am willing to be interviewed by the selection committee. I will be prepared to talk about my involvement in 4-H and my future plans.
