COURSE DESCRIPTION: A survey of the basic Biblical teaching regarding salvation, the church, and the second coming.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: The student who successfully completes this course should be able:

1. to appreciate the beauty, value, and nature of Bible-based theology as an intellectual discipline.

2. to be familiar with and understand a variety of theological terms, concepts, expressions, and ideas.

3. to be aware of the major Biblical passages used to support various theological positions on major issues.

4. to understand the nature of some major theological debates and begin formulating one’s own views and positions concerning these issues and debates.

5. to understand a variety of theological positions and developments in Christian heritage.

6. to articulate a statement of faith with reference to the Bible’s teaching about the nature of sin, salvation, the church, the sacraments, ministry, and last things.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Textbook

Cottrell, Jack. The Faith Once For All. Joplin, MO: College Press, 2003.

Assignments

1. The student will type six (6) lessons suitable for teaching adults, elementary age children, or high-school age teens. You are to write two lessons each on salvation, the church, and the end times. Each lesson should cover a fifty (50) minute class period. The assignments should include a title page that includes the following information:

1. The title of the paper and age group

2. The course name (TTH 210 Basic Bible Doctrines 2)

3. The Professor’s name (Professor Snyder)

4. The semester and year (Spring 2013)

5. You name and mailbox number

The lessons on salvation are due on February 26, 2013

The lessons on the church are due on March 26, 2013

The lessons on the end times are due on April 23, 2013

Failure to follow the instructions for these assignments will result in a 20% grade reduction

2. Chapter Outlines from the class text

You are to outline chapters 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20. These are due on February 12, 2013.

You are to outline chapters 23, 24, 25, 26. These are due on March 12, 2013.

You are to outline chapters 30, 31, 32, 33. These are due on April 9,2013.

Examinations

There will be three examinations given in this course. Each exam will cover one of the three sections of material covered and will be given at the completion of each section. The date of each exam will be announced throughout the semester and ample time for study will be given. If you cannot be here on the announced date of a test you must make arrangements with the professor BEFORE the date of the test in order to make arrangements to take the test at another time. Otherwise, if you are not here on the day of the test you will receive the grade of 0% for the test.

Late Policy

No late work will be accepted.

Attendance Policy

This is a block class. See the student handbook for allowed absences.

If you are habitually late, it will hurt your grade.
