3.1 / From the Dean:
Personalia: Prof Marais informed the meeting the Louise Viljoen is not well yet; she has been booked off for another week. She will then only work half-day for a while. An assistant has been appointed to help with the work.
Catch-up payment: Prof Marais reported that all the approved applications were submitted on Wednesday, but that it was too late for the payroll. Mrs B de Beer will try to speedup the process.
Relocation: The meeting was informed that the relocation of the Department of Environmental Health was completed and the Department of Chemical Engineering about 70% completed.
Bursaries for postgraduate students: Prof Marais requests Heads of Department to contact him if they need a bursary for a South African postgraduate student. The matter needs to be discussed by the Faculty Research and Innovation committee. / Coetzee, T (Ms) & Viljoen, L (Ms)

The focus of this study has also changed which makes it difficult for him to assist the student.

8.1 / Application to promote a student’s studies from M Tech to D Tech: Decision: That the application received from student Pretorius, JD (Mr) (206270322) – M Tech: Agriculture (MTAL98) could not be considered before TUT has such a policy in place.

8.2 / Appointment of external assessors: Exco of 28 June 2007 (Faculty Board of 3 August 2007 and Senate of 3 September 2008) has approved the appointment of external assessors for student, Rothman, B (Mr) (98041109). It has now come to light that one of the assessors Chidarikire, TN (Ms) does not have a PhD. A motivation is attached for the confirmation of her appointment. The dissertation of the student needs still to be assessed.

9. / DISCUSSION OF THE SUPPLEMENTARY AGENDA:
9.1 / Postgraduate teaching assistants: The meeting took note that postgraduate students could be appointed as teaching assistants for a specific supervisor. They will assist with teaching and practical work but not with compiling and marking of tests and examination question papers.
