TRYOUT PROCESS

Revised 9/4/17

PURPOSE:

Marathon County Youth Hockey (MCYH) is an all-inclusive, organization where every player, Squirts to Bantams, is awarded an opportunity to play hockey. As such, there will always be a broad range of player talent within our organization. The purpose of the MCYH Tryout process is to rank players and place each of them on a team appropriate to their skill level.

MCYH is also dedicated to the enjoyment of youth hockey and the improvement of individual player skill each season. Because of this dedication to both players and parents, the following guidelines have been developed to ensure that each player who is evaluated has an equal opportunity to be selected for the appropriate WarJack team as space provides. The guidelines have also been developed to minimize any confusion on the part of parents related to the tryout process.

TRYOUT LEVELS:

a)MCYHA tryouts will be conducted separately for each level – Squirts, PeeWees, and Bantams.

b)A Level Coordinator (LC) will be assigned by the VP of Players for each of the level.

c)The LC will be in charge of recruiting and assigning level evaluators for each session/sessions, providing the necessary equipment and forms for their level of tryouts, providing refreshments, and a general supervision of the on-ice tryout process.

d)A listing of evaluators for each level will be submitted by the LC to the VP of Players for approval prior to the first evaluation session.

EVALUATORS:

a)The LC will assemble a team of unbiased evaluators consisting of hockey-knowledgeable coaches, student coaches, and/or adults, either from within MCYH or outside the organization.

b)The evaluators will consist of individuals approved by the VP of Players and the tryout committee, and may consist of the VP of Players, and the tryout committee, but who do not have a related player participating in that level of evaluations.

c)A pool of evaluators will be no less than 3 for each level.

d)Prior to the start of each tryout session, the LC and or the VP of Players will brief all evaluators on their duties and guidelines.

e)Under no circumstance, should the evaluators come in contact with a parent for the level that they are evaluating. If a parent does come in contact with an evaluator, that evaluator should report that incident to the LC and/or VP of Players immediately. The LC and/or VP of Players will discuss with the parent/parents that interactions with evaluators is inappropriate.
