Kelowna Volleyball Club
2015Tryout Procedure Guidelines
Open Tryouts
Athletes are selected in open tryouts. Athletes must attend tryouts; no athlete is guaranteed a position on a team prior to tryouts.
Athlete Selection
Selections will be made by a Technical Selection Committee. The Technical Committee is made up of qualified and experienced Volleyball Personnel. This committee will place each athlete on the team they believe to be beneficial to the individual athlete and to the competitiveness of the team.
Athletes will be selected on individual merit in terms of athletic ability and future potential, volleyball skills, physical size/strength, work ethic, attitude, communication skills and position-specific attributes.
The number of teams per age bracket will be determined by availability of gym time, availability of coaches, and the number of athletes in the individual age brackets.
General Procedure Guidelines
There will be 2-3 tryouts per Volleyball BC age category. Players will try out for their appropriate age category, based onhis or her birth year not school grade. If a player is invited by a Technical Committee member to tryout at a higher level,he or she is free to do so. Players cannot play down an age bracket. Age groups that have 3 tryouts may have preliminary cuts after the 2nd tryout. Selected athletes will be invited back for the 3rd and final tryout. Final selections will take place after the 3rd tryout.
Team Commitment Requirements
If an athlete is selected to a team they will be asked to commit to that team.
- For the 12U, 13U and 14U, as well as the 15U league age brackets. After a player is selected to a team, a $350 payment will be required by December 31/14. This will cover the cost for the season for League Teams and will be a non-refundable deposit for the 13U and 14U Travel Teams.
- For the 15U, 16U, 17U and 18U age brackets. After a player is selected to a team, a $500 payment will be required by December 31/14 as a non-refundable deposit for the season.
If the deposit cheques are not received by December 31/14, the athlete could risk losing their place on the team. Only under extraordinary circumstances such as medical issues will exceptions be made.
Parental Requirements
An information meeting for parents will be held during the first tryout of each age category. This meeting will cover an overview of the season and fees. If you are new to club volleyball, this is the place to have your questions answered. Parents must sign the registration form before their child can participate in the tryout process. This includes those that have registered on-line.
Athlete Release Form
If an athlete chooses to try out for a different club than the one which they played for in the previous season, they MUST bring an Athlete Release Form signed by a club representative from the previous club. This must be presented prior to attending the tryout at a new club. (Athlete Release Forms can be found on the Volleyball BC website.)
