Truth in Life Connector (TLC) Coordinator
Position Overview:
The TLC Coordinator is responsible for supervising approximately 22-24 college-aged cabin counselors (TLCs) involved in the operation, relationship buildingand implementation of Get Connected! Camp.
Get Connected! Camp is to be a life-defining summer camp experience for early teen girls.
The three goals of the camp include:
- To motivate and challenge girls to grow deeper relationships – with God, with other girls, with parents and family, with non–believers, and with themselves.
- To equip girls to make wise choices in today’s rapidly changing society.
- To inspire and teach girls to live out their true identity as a unique, special, and beautiful daughter of the King of the Universe – their heavenly Father.
Reporting Structure: The TLC Coordinator reports to the Camp Director. The TLCs report to the TLC Coordinator.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Recruitment of TLC applicants (college-age cabin counselors, which are identified as “Truth and Life Connectors”) in Fall 2015 and Winter 2016
- Sending bulletin announcements to churches, contacting and possibly, if necessary, visiting colleges and universities to meet with girls, contacting college and career groups, contacting past TLCs
- Interviewing TLC applicants along with the Camp Director on Skype or phone to assess suitability for TLC role
- Work with Camp Director to select team of TLCs by April 30, 2016, and send confirmation letters/contracts
- Record all TLC emergency contact information, i.e. address, phone, emergency contact person(s), email addresses
- Update TLC training material
- Set up and manage TLC Facebook group to allow TLCs to “meet” each other and arrange rides
- Plan and manage training weekend prior to camp to train TLCs on camp schedule, camp activities, mentoring skills, camp policies and procedures, emergency plans, discipline plans, and more
- Plan a commissioning event for the TLCs on the night before camp starts
- Supervise, coach, and mentor TLCs throughout the week of camp in an engaging, positive, and participatory manner
- Lead daily morning check-in meetings during camp, in which the TLCs will share any issues they’re experiencing
- Visit cabins at lights-out each evening to check that all girls are in bed and quiet
- Provide encouragement and affirmation throughout the week for TLCs
- Plan a celebratory event after camp is finished (Friday late afternoon) to appreciate and thank God for all that has been done
- Give a handwritten card at the celebratory event
- Provide written feedback to Camp Director on how your area of responsibility could be improved in the future, participate in the camp debrief meeting
- Other tasks as assigned by Camp Director
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong faith and active participation in a faith community (references from a pastor, campus chaplain, or equivalent will be required, as well as one or more character references)
- An understanding of the GEMS Girls’ Club ministry and Get Connected! Camp – previous experience with both is preferred but not required
- Experience supervising teens and/or young adults
- Strong leadership and coaching skills
- Ability to effectively teach and train a group of 22-24 young women in a fun and engaging way
- Experience in event planning
An honorarium will be given for this position. The time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours per week from October 2015 through February 2016. Approximately 2-3 hours per week from March 2016 through July 2016 is needed and full time throughout the training and week of camp.
