Red Day

A non uniform day has been organised by the School Council for Wednesday 13th February. All pupils are invited to come along to school dressed in red on the day. There will be a healthy, red snack on the day for all those participating. The cost will be £1.00

Choir

Choir began on Thursday 24th January and is running well at present. We hope to take part in Portadown Music Festival again this year. We as yet have no date for the Music Festival but will inform you as soon as we are notified. Please remember choir practice finishes each Thursday at 3.30 pm.

100% Attendance Month

Monday 4th February will begin our first ever 100% Attendance Month. All pupils with full attendance during the month of February will be awarded a small prize.

February Fire-side Quiz

Please support our School Council as they raise funds for school by purchasing one of their Fire-side quizzes. The sheets can be purchased from School Office at the cost of £1.00. Super prizes to be won.

Netball Club

Netball club begins on Friday 8th February and will run for 5 weeks. The club will be open to P5-7 girls. We will have a netball friendly match with St Coleman’s Bann on Friday 22nd March.

Konflux Theatre Group

Miss Martin’s P7 class took part in an educational and enjoyable drama workshop on Thursday 31st January. The topic was ‘The Titanic’ and the children all enjoyed it very much.

Salute to the 1st Day of Spring

P2/P3 class had a very educational and enjoyable two hour programme of activities to mark the beginning of Spring on Wednesday 30th January. They found out about some of the customs associated with Spring and made very attractive St Brigid’s Crosses from rushes. This workshop was provided by Lough Neagh Discovery Centre and cost the school £35.00.

Konflux Theatre Visit

P1-P3 will be having a visit from Konflux Theatre on Monday 4th February. They will be exploring the topic of Healthy eating and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Times Tables Speed Challenge

P4-7 will be participating in a times tables Maths challenge on Thursday 7th February. Best wishes to all taking part.

Reminder

All parents of pupils in P1-P4 are asked to attend our Numeracy Evening on Tuesday 5th February at 7.30 pm. Free Maths Packs for all in attendance. All parents who have already joined us this academic year for a maths evening can be assured topics covered will be different and will include number bonds and decomposition. Maths packs will also contain different resources.

Healthy Break

A reminder to all parents that we as

a school are requested to ensure a healthy break policy. Therefore we only allow milk, water or fruit juice to be drank at break. Remember a piece of fruit, a pancake/sandwich, cheese, yoghurt (without the chocolate flakes) is a healthy snack. No crisps or biscuits allowed.

The School Car Park

The School Car Park is reserved for staff parking ONLY. If you are collecting your child from an afternoon activity please ensure you wait outside the school gates. Please ask yourself the question if everyone adopted the policy of parking in the school car park how safe would your child be? Unfortunately if this problem persists the school gates will have to be locked.

School Canteen

Recent work carried out on ensuring disability access into the canteen has reached completion. I’m sure you will agree a very satisfactory job has been done.

80th Anniversary Magazine

We are currently working on putting together a school magazine to celebrate our 80th Anniversary. If you can help us by providing photographs of your time or any of your family’s time at Gilford Primary please send them into the school office in an envelope and we will ensure they are returned to you as soon as possible.
