TRENT PARK RUNNING CLUB

BEGINNER’S RUNNING PROGRAMME 14th February 2015

·  The Trent Park Running Club Complete Beginner’s Programme commences on Saturday 14th February at 9.30am.

·  You must book in advance to secure a place, please contact Penny Cording. These courses are very busy.

·  We will meet in the Southgate Hockey Centre at the end of Snakes Lane which is almost opposite Oakwood Tube Station. Postal code EN4 0PS

·  The Coaches and Leaders will be at the Club to welcome you from 9.00am onwards, please try and get there early to complete the form if necessary and have a chat before running.

·  The cost of the course is £50. We do not require payment at the first session; see what it’s like first. If you are paying by cheque please make the cheques payable to ‘Trent Park Running Club’. £30 of the fee will be offset against the cost of the Club Membership should you wish to join at the end of the course.

·  What to wear:

·  Thin Layers – it’s easier to remove clothes when you get hot.

v Long sleeve Tee shirt – it will be cold to start but you’ll soon warm up

v Ladies – Wear a good sports bra, this is really important.

v Shorts, capris, leggings or Gym trousers.

v Running trainers:

o  Absorb shock on impact and guide the foot into neutral gait

o  Running shoes can be expensive so use a specialist retailer when buying running trainers. Shops such as Sweatshop in Finchley will exchange the trainers if you find they’re not right. They also have a treadmill to run on. Full Members of the running club are entitled to 10% discount on production of their membership card although I’m sure if you mentioned you’re part of the Beginners Course they would allow 10% anyway.

o  When buying trainers try them on later in the day when your feet are warm.

o  Try trainers on with the running socks you usually wear.

The Park is very muddy so your trainers will get dirty best to bring footwear to change into when you’ve finished.

·  The Programme is designed for a Complete Beginner and aims to take you from no running at all to running 5k in ten weeks. If you are not used to exercise this may be challenging for you but certainly not impossible, try to do some regular walking before you start, this may help.

·  There will be TWO organised, 1 hour sessions a week: Saturdays in Trent Park starting promptly at 9.30am and Tuesdays at 7.30pm at Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, Donkey Lane, (just off Caterhatch Lane, EN1 3PL behind the David Lloyd Centre). Occasionally the stadium is not available so we meet in Trent Park at 7.30pm. E-mails will be sent to inform you. If you can’t make one of the sessions you should try and complete it on your own to keep up with the programme.

·  Ideally you should be doing three sessions a week. Once you’ve met others in the group you’ll find you can team up with someone else to run with for the third session.

·  Trent Park Running Club is very lucky to have a number of Leaders, Coaches and Club Members who have volunteered to help out with the group so you’ll be meeting quite a few people. All of us want you to enjoy yourselves and get as much fun out of running as we do.

·  Each week you will receive an e mail informing you of your progress and giving advice and tips about running.

WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE PROGRAMME.
