Chairperson’s Report

Helen Tilbury welcomed everyone to the meeting, saying that this year we have had the highest

attendance on record. We notified everyone on the database, and all the leavers from years 1996, 1999 and 2003, making a total of 425. The earliest leaver attending this weekend was here from 1949-53, and the next earliest was here from 1958-61. A total of approximately 94 former students have come from as far away as Yorkshire, Wales and Guernsey to reunite with old friends and colleagues. Another 62 acknowledged our letters and returned their forms giving us their news, one coming from Malaysia and another from the Ascension Islands.

Our Committee is going strong and we hope to become even stronger in the coming year, which is good. Helen went on to say – I hope you have been impressed this year by being at Froyle, and seeing the changes to the buildings. It shows you how times change and yet it is good that we are all still here and can enjoy being together. Thank you all for coming, because without you there would be no Treloar College Association reunion, and I would be out of a job. Our President, Mr Bruce Powell, would like me to pass his regards on to you all.

Election of Officers

Tom is stepping down as Treasurer this year. Sara Felton has offered to take over as Treasurer.

The members of the Committee are: Dean Beverley (Vice Chairman) Christina Candey,

Ella-Jayne Campbell, Cheryl White, Owen Savill, Ryan Gratrix, Ann Human (Secretary), James Shiddell and Francesca Hawes. Helen Burton is our College Contact.

James Shiddell and Francesca Hawes are up for re-election this year, and we need another committee member. Aaron Rose has offered to stand.

James Shiddell, proposed by Mikla Frere and seconded by Claire Barker.

Francesca Hawes, proposed by James Shiddell and seconded by Cheryl White

Aaron Rose, proposed by Tom Yendell and seconded by Martin Doyle.

All present were in favour.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer’s Account £6,529. 73

Business Account£16,669. 27

Cheques to go into account £55. 00

Cash in Foot £12. 64

Plus 2004 payments £82. 00

The Treasurer then told delegates about the Shaftesbury Society form which had been sent to him by Eugene Sinnott, Principal of Hinwick Hall College of Further Education in Northamptonshire. He went over how this form worked in relation to the assessment of care each person needs on occasions like the Reunion, and how the cost could be calculated individually. Tom explained Mr Sinott’s role at Treloar College prior to him going to Hinwick.

The Committee decided at their last meeting that the proceeds from the raffle at the Reunion Dinner would be donated to Hinwick Hall. Mr Sinnott had been invited to our reunion dinner, but unfortunately could not come. He was very pleased that we had thought of Hinwick. The proceeds from the raffle came to £120.00.

Website

Owen reported that work on the website is a bit slow, and he is working on it with Ryan. The plan is to have a Treloar College Association website with information and news of coming events, plus the booking form, also a Members’ database on the lines of Friends Reunited. There should be something next year, and bits will be released as they are ready. Our website address will be tfpa.org.uk and will be linked to the Treloar Trust website.

The Alton Society

The Alton Society are doing research on Sir William Treloar and have asked if one of our former students would be interested in joining their committee.

Disability Awareness Training

A network of people who would be willing to do Disability Awareness Training is to be established. If anyone wants to be involved with this, please see Tom Yendell.

The Reunion Weekend

Tom told everyone that from his own and the committee’s point of view this was easier to organise at Froyle. The staff here – Catering, House and Site Manager have been so much more welcoming and helpful and willing to meet our needs. The only problem we encountered was that manual wheelchairs had trouble getting up the slopes. Also, it was difficult to find our way around the new layout. We will put our own signage up next year, also large, clear numbering on doors to rooms. The tour of the new facilities did not take place due to lack of time, but we will do this next year. Meetings took up too much time and next year will be scheduled differently.

Martin Muir asked if forms could be sent out earlier. We received several late forms this year, well after the closing date on the letter. Delegates were asked to get someone to help them complete their forms and post them in time to reach us by the due date. If forms do arrive late, we may have to call you and say you cannot come. Helen reminded everyone that, if they move, please let us have the new address.

We cannot be held responsible for forms going to the wrong address, which was the case with Martin this year.

Anthony Ridgway asked if transport to Holybourne to see the independence flats there could be arranged.

Julian Sandiford asked if maps could be sent with booking forms. Maps and instructions on how to get to Froyle were sent out with the booking confirmation letters.

Tom Yendell closed the meeting saying “See you next year”.
