Dear Parent(s),

I believe in creating a positive classroom community where your child feels comfortable and welcome. I want your child to feel as though the classroom is his or hers and not just the teacher’s classroom. I would like to take the time to tell you about Magnolia Trace’s School-Wide Discipline Plan.

Our number 1 classroom rule is:

Treat others the way you want to be treated!

Other classroom and work expectations will be discussed and created as a class.

Maggie’s Bones

Rules and expectations will be enforced using Maggie’s bones. The goal of Magnolia Trace’s School-Wide Discipline Plan is to promote positive behavior by using the “Maggie is Ready to Learn Chart”.

With the chart, students begin the day on Blue-“Maggie is Ready to Learn.” During the course of the day, the student can move up and down the chart based upon behavior choices.

Positive behaviors will be rewarded by moving up to an “Orange Bone” and then up to a “Purple Bone” and even up to a “Pink Bone.” If a student has an unbelievably great dayand moves beyond the “Pink Bone” – it will be considered an “Off the Chart Day” and result in special recognition in the classroom.

Negative behaviors will result in a move to a “Green Bone.” If the behaviors continue, a move to a “Yellow Bone” will occur and the student may lose privileges. If disruptive behaviors continue, this will ensure a move to a “Red Bone” or “Dog House” with a behavior note sent home and a possible phone call or email to the parent. Serious or repeat infractions will be handled according to the discipline policy outlined in the MTE Handbook. This usually means a visit to Think Tank.

In the classroom, I also believe in rewarding a child who has made good choices. Your child may receive a ticket to be reimbursed with a reward he or she has chosen.

Each day, it will be your child’s responsibility to mark his or her behavior color on the overview – the “Peek at the Week.” If your child had to move his or her “bone” down, I will mark his or her color with a very brief explanation. This is only to inform you what color your child’s Maggie bone was on for the day. Please initial by each day.

Please read over and discuss the discipline plan with your child. Sign and return this letter to school. It may be kept in your child’s take-home binder.

Thanks,

Dr. Stephanie M.D. Longman, Ed.D
