TREAT OTHERS AS WE TREAT OURSELF by Celine Huang

(James 2:1) “My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ don’t show favoritism”.

When we live in this world, we are physically restricted and thus unable to understand certain matters fully. We judge matters to be right and wrong on face value. We often walk by flesh, only to find out that we have made our judgement in ignorance. If we rely on God in all things, pray unceasingly allow the word of God to fulfill us, and let the Holy Spirit move us to complete every work given by God. Then we will do those things willingly. If we do His work, not boast of our self and treat everyone without partiality, God will surely reward us in the future.

At times we maybe affected by society’s customs and ideas, contributing to our selfishness and self-righteousness, thinking that we are better than others, and treat others unfairly. If one day you see a man with gold rings, or other valuable goods, such as the latest mobile phones or in fine apparel coming to church, and you see another poor man wearing what may not be the latest fashion, or that this man is plain or very quite. If you say to one “ you sit here in a good place” and say to the poor man in another attitude “ you stand there “ or “sit here at my footstool” have you not shown partiality among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

This parable describes our prejudice therefore we should always encourage ourselves to love others as we love ourselves. For God looks at our hearts and not our appearance, God is spirit, therefore we should worship him in spirit and in truth.

For God does not show partiality. As the children of God, should we not be like Jesus, to be able to reach out and touch someone with leprosy, and by his faith healed him, so that he can receive comfort and help physically and spiritually? The power of creation and destruction is in God’s hand therefore do not be proud because of your strength or your wisdom, rather we should do things according to the will of God, then we will find delight in the Lord and He will bless you.

QUESTION:

How should we treat others?

Is the attitude of the society necessarily be the correct one?
