OLD BUSINESS

  1. Treasurer Report – We have $12,091.43 in the WBLA bank account
  2. Minutes – November minutes approved and posted on website
  3. First Time attendees – Liz Groughnar, Gary Stevens, Drew Sarmeer
  4. Second Time attendees – Ronald Sulak sponsored by Lane Marshburn was voted in unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Hope from Helen – Theresa Kramer reported the event was awesome and raised $46,000.00.
  2. WBLA Oyster Roast – Shawn O. reported our annual event was a success and was more streamlined this year. Club President Stan Plotner won the Bill Curry Ironman Flyer Pro model Savage Surfboard and has chosen to sell the board and donate the money to the club.
  3. Indo Jax Nicaragua Trip Report - Jack Viorel spoke about their recent trip to Nica which was their second annual outreach trip where they worked with local kids planting, teaching English, and surfing.
  4. Upcoming Indo Jax Trip to India – Jack Viorel talked about their upcoming trip to India planned for the 13th or 14th of April 2017. This will be the 8th or 9th yearly trip to India where they house, feed, take field trips and teach surfing to 80 or so orphan girls. This year young ESA surfers will be among the INDO JAX team. These travelers will be raising money for the trip so please donate to them if you’re able. Also they will be bringing gifts such as flip flops, hats, sunscreen etc. with them so please help with that as well, Kat Neff will be the point of contact if you wish to help with the gifts. March 25th Indo Jax is putting on a fundraiser called Paddle to India. Please visit Indo Jax Facebook page and you’ll find more information about the paddle event as well as the trip to India.
  5. Movie Night – Our 2nd Movie Night will occur on January 2ndbefore the regular club meeting and will be sponsored by Hot Wax Surf Shop.Raffle tickets for door prizes will be available for sale at the event. Raffle tickets will go into the bucket for the end of year drawing for a Billy Curry Fish by Savage. Again, Aussie Island sponsored the 1stMovie Night, Hot Wax 2nd, Surf City 3rd and Savage Surfboards will sponsor the 4th and final movie night. Please visit these businesses and say thanks, better yet buy something.
  6. WBLA Online Store –Laura mentioned the store going live and accepting orders in the near future. Anticipate the store closing on Sunday 11 December. Fleeces, hoodies, t-shirts, beanies and more will be available. Follow us on Facebook for updates or keep an eye on your email inbox. Also if you’re not getting emails from the club let us know. Thanks to Kyle Sullivan for his assistance in getting this together.
  7. The Club is organizing efforts to assist families in need this holiday season.
  8. Dennis Murphy – A renowned shaper from the San Diego area now lives locally will shape the prize board for 2017’s WBLA Contest winner. Dennis is a great guy who is a natural fit in the WBLA.

c.Events – Rick Shovlin is exploring ideas to get the club members together such as surf instruction from senior members, yoga, surf sessions, etc. Please contact him if you have ideas.

e.WBLA Contest – Russ Herman – 2017 Contest will be in October. We’ve also added Jetty as a contest sponsor.

  1. Membership Dues – Everyone is reminded to pay your club dues.Individuals $30.00/Families $40.00
  2. Meeting sign in sheet – Please remember to sign in at the meetings.
  3. Misc – wblasurf.org is up and running/Sweatshirts and fleeces are available/ SOD has worked a deal with HYPERFLEX Wetsuits that offer WBLA club members deeply discounted(at cost) prices. Go to the Savage Factory Showroom or give’em a call to get one.
