Girls Camp - 2017

The theme this year for the Silverdale Stake Girls Camp 2017 is: “Treasure the Truth” based on the talk “In Search of Treasure” by President Monson. And our scripture is 3 Nephi 13:19-21.

We also have 4 mini-themes for each day at camp with accompanying talks and scriptures.

Treasure the Savior - John 14:6 “If Ye Had Known Me” from Elder Bednar

Treasure your Faith: Alma 32:21 “Fourth Floor, Last Door” by President Uchtdorf

Treasure your Worth: D&C 18:10 You Matter to Him” by President Uchtdorf

Treasure your Courage: Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and of Good Courage” by President Monson:

It is our hope that every young woman can come tobetter understand and develop a stronger testimony of our Savior and the light and truth he brings. The scripture we will be focusing on again is 3 Nephi 13:19-21 which has been a scripture mastery in the past. We would love it if every YW can be familiar with that scripture prior to coming to camp.

We have a favorite hymn that we sing everyday up at camp that coincides with each days mini-theme.

I believe in Christ

A Child’s Prayer

I stand all Amazed

How firm a Foundation

If you are able to incorporate these into your opening exercises for the next couple months; that way the girls are familiar with these songs for camp. We are also focusing on a YCL led girls camp this year. To help catch this vision, you may want to visit the link

The official dates for Girl’s Camp are Wednesday, July 12 AM – Saturday, July 15 PM ; However we will be having all YCLs come to camp on Tuesday afternoon July 11 to prepare camp.On Monday, July 10th, we will be having a CPR/First Aid certification from 9:30 AM-12:00 at the Poulsbo building. The girls will be able to come to take part in camp CPR/First Aid certification. They will need to bring their camp manuals both to CPR day and camp. If you could ensure that every girl going to camp this year has a camp manual.

This year we will be returning once again to Zion’s camp, and will be setting up camp at Lehi. (This is the same site as last year)--We are at the site with longhouses so the girls will want to bring an air mattress or cushion of some sort (bunks do not have mattresses). Watch for signs that will direct you to the parking area. Due to its close proximity, wards will be expected to transport their young women, along with their camp gear, to and from Zion’s Camp. We will expect the campers and any cabin moms to arrive at camp at 9:00 AM on Wednesday morning. Lunch will be provided. Check out will be Saturday morning…time TBD. We are requesting that girls and leaders commit to staying the entire week at camp to avoid disruption. Please try not to make appointments and other obligations during this time.

In the last few years, the responsibility of the lice check has been delegated to the ward young women leaders; which we have found to be much less intrusive into the girl’s privacy. We would like to continue this tradition and ask you to carry out that responsibility at your discretion, the weekend prior to camp.

Financial Responsibilities

The cost for girl’s camp this year is still be determined. There is no cost for leaders. We ask that you collect the 1st ½ payment (checks should be made out to your ward via a tithing slip) and turn it in to your ward clerk by April 1. The remainder of the cost (2nd ½ payment) should be turned in by June 1. Girls need to turn their money in by using a tithing slip and mark the amount in the “Other” account labeled Girls Camp. Your ward clerk should then write out these installment checks, made out to the Silverdale Stake: one for the April payment and one check for the June payment. These checks need to be sent to President Gillespie’s home address ( this can be found on the Stake Directory on lds.org) Please be prompt with these payments, as we have costs that must be met prior to camp. We encourage you to work with your young women in helping them earn money through a fundraiser. Be sure to use the guidelines given in the handbook.

Ward Responsibilities

  1. This year we will only be needing cabin moms for 1st and 2nd years. We will be looking at each ward and the number of women already participating in camp with either crafts, kitchen help, /lifeguarding, etc. and then determining if we need additional help from your ward for cabin moms. We will be contacting your ward directly if needed. If we need cabin moms from your ward, please look first to your YW Presidency and advisors. If the sister attending is not on your Young Women Board, the name must be approved through your bishop and Sister Russell.

Cabin Mom meetings are May 7th 6:00 p.m. and June 11th 6:00 p.m. in the Poulsbo building RS room.

  1. Certification Requirements: See attached sheet:

Hiking and Fire Safety

  1. We will also be doing the singing tree again this year so we will need your Young Women to come prepared with a song to present that night around the campfire. This can be as simple as a primary song, or as song based on our theme with girls accompanying on a musical instrument; it is fun to see what the girls come up with.

YCL Responsibilities

One of the goals of Young Women camp is to “develop leadership skills”; to help us achieve this goal we are inviting our youth camp leaders (YCLs) to participate in the planning and preparation for girl’s camp. We have had several productive meetings so far and lots of creative ideas and input. The remaining dates for YCL meetings are February 12at 6:00pm, April 236:00pm and June 11 at 6:00pm at the Poulsbo building. June 11 will be a joint Cabin Mom/YCL meeting) The YCL high adventure/training date is June 21-22.

There are probably many questions that you will need answered between now and July 12. Please call or email me with any of your questions. (360 434-8248…)

We are always receptive to suggestions or recommendations that will help make camp a positive experience for all our Young Women.

We hope to have on-line registration again this year by March 15th. (Silverdalestakeyouth.com) - We ask that you register your girls as early as possible –(to coincide with the April 1st payment) to help us with budget/planning.
