Salary:£18,327 - £19,965Purpose of job

To provide a transcription service of original material into accessible formats for a range of customer groups, following defined routes, processes, procedures and standards to deliver agreed standards and turnaround times.

Main accountabilities:

  1. To ensure that all work is delivered in accordance with customer instructions as expressed through the allocated production route, timings, budgets and standards.
  1. Follow system generated work lists, proactively bringing any issues to the attention of supervisor.
  1. Monitor quality throughout the transcription process, reporting defects and non-conformances, and where necessary, correcting any defects.
  1. Validate output to agreed standards, using agreed procedures, supplying clear, concise and consistent feedback to the originator as appropriate.
  1. Carry out editing and/or final checks as required in accordance with departmental standards and customer instructions.
  1. Assist with the recruitment, training and motivation of volunteers and/or narrators and provide feedback on their suitability for future work.
  1. Provide support and assistance to other staff, volunteers and/or narrators as required.
  1. Participate in both ongoing and project planning process, providing support as required.
  1. Maintain high quality customer service by responding to all customer enquiries promptly and efficiently. Maintain customer focus at all times.
  1. Work co-operatively within own team and across teams, ensuring business needs are met and providing support, advice and cover for tasks in order to maintain service levels.
  1. Recommend and implement process improvement and accommodate change within an evolving production environment.
  1. Familiarisation and awareness of issues associated with sight problems, with particular focus on the production of accessible information.

Person Specification

  4. Knowledge of the principles involved in editing original copy and final checking accessible media outputs.
  5. Demonstrably proficient as recognised by Transcription Management in one of the following:
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Standard English Braille;
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Unified English Braille.
  • Demonstrably proficient as recognised byTranscription Management in a minimum of two of the following skills:
  • Language codes;
  • Maths code;
  • Music code
  • Complex SEB/UEB layout;
