Transcript for Celebrating Maternal and Child Health (MCH)Nurses

We love that they check the babies for things you would never think of — hip dysplasia, check their eyes, things that you wouldn’t normally look for.
Claude and Marcus
Any specific concerns I may have, they will address them and answer them. And most important, they always end with ‘if you’ve got any problems, just give us a call and you can come see us’. So it’s not like your appointment is at 18 months and we don’t want to know you before or after that. They always tell us ‘anytime you’ve got any problems just come’.
Rebecca Lowrey, Maternal Child and Health Nurse, West Preston MCH Centre
Probably my favourite thing about being a Maternal and Child Health Nurse is doing the home visits with the families and meeting them from the start. Seeing them as new-born babies and following them right through to the three-and-a-half year appointment. It’s pretty amazing, yeah.
Jason, Anastasia, Lily and Olivia
This nurse actually came to our house when we left the hospital, in the first few days of the hospital, so it’s a full service right from those first few days until maybe when they are three or four, whatever it is, yeah. So the nurse looks after the entire process.

When you come here you know they see all these children and it’s recorded, and they have a good idea, a general idea of what children do, you know? And you’re never embarrassed to ask anything — that’s the most important thing, because we’re dealing more with them (points to child) than us. You just want to feel comfortable talking to them, asking them anything you need.

It feels pretty amazing doing such good work for families in Victoria and providing such a good service.
Jason, Anastasia, Lily and Olivia
We would thank the nurses for the amazing care of both our babies. Just having them so close to home, it’s just been so wonderful. And they’re so good with both girls.

Bye bye (blows kiss). Good boy.
