Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) allow the ability to carry out underwater surveys, inspections or job specific tasks in real-time in enclosed or open environments for either short or prolonged periods. Some of the uses for ROV’s include:

·  Tank, reservoir and dam inspections

·  Bridge Inspections

·  Salvage surveys

·  Environmental, AQIS/Customs surveys

·  In water hull surveys

·  Search and recovery

·  Marine infrastructure security

The main advantages of using an ROV for inspection is their cost effectiveness compared to more customary methods. The ROV system can be setup and online in as little as 15 minutes. The ROV and ancillary equipment is compact and easily transported by air, road or sea both in Australia and overseas. Task specific tooling and sensor expansion may include sonar, thickness testing, GPS positioning and a manipulating arm.

Rovsubsea Services operates the Seamor 300T unit which is constructed from aluminium and high impact ABS. The unit weighs only 20kgs and has a depth rating to 300 metres with a maximum speed underwater of 3 knots. The camera is a full colour Sony with manual or auto focus and a 10x optical zoom and a 180 degree tilt range. Lighting is provided by 2 led lights with a combined output of 3000 lumens.

I have over 30 years’ experience in the commercial diving industry including 5 years as a clearance diver in the Royal Australian Navy. I have been involved in many large underwater construction and salvage projects including an in water ship repair of a 300,000 tonne bulk carrier, and many other salvages of varying size and degree of difficulty.

I envisage the need for ROV inspections both as a standalone service and side by side with dive teams. Please call or email to arrange for a demonstration or any further inquiries you may have.
