I. WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS / Ken Bergmann welcomed everyone to the meeting and self introductions were made.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES / Bob McGrath approved minutes of the last meeting and Nelson Lopes seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously carried.
3. NATEF RECERTIFICATION REPORT / Ken thanked the dealerships that participated in the NATEF Recertification process last spring. All automotive programs are now NATEF certified/recertified for the next five year.
4. STUDENT TRAINING/INTERNSHIPS
/ Curriculum Review - Tom Keller instructing brand new class of 24 students (12 placed, 9 ready for interviews. Teaching basic auto tech. Will move next to basic electrical.
Ken Williams’ 2nd year students attend class Monday and Tuesday. Will be working on engine performance. 1st year students attend Wednesday and Thursday. All students will be in school on the 29th, but need to register by the 26th.

4. STUDENT TRAINING/INTERNSHIPS
continued / Ø  First Year Student Interviews – Tom sending out student resumes. Some students have been hired and some are not ready, so are being held back.
Ø  Student Evaluations – Wait toward end of the month. Be honest – comments encouraged. Instructors need to know if student or dealer is having a problem.
Ø  Tool Scholarships – Some dealers have scholarships through BCC. ATC having a problem getting information on funds from BCC. Suggest not contributing any more money to their fund. Suggested dealerships work out some kind of tool scholarship with student at time of graduation. Would want student to sign a contract stating that if they leave dealership, tools stay with dealer.
Ø  Pay Plan – Was agreed to last year: All students’ starting pay will not be less than $8.50; after 90 days, re-evaluate – if favorable, can increase to $10 (if student does not get raise after 90 days, e-mail Tom or Ken to let them know what the problem is); re-evaluate every 6 months; by graduation student should be at a minimum of $12.00.
Comments: Maroone uses flat rate system. Dealerships can give incentives for ASE’s. Students should be working with mentors and practicing the skills they are working on in class. Dealerships can use their own evaluation process. Out of the 24 new students, 11 were recommended by friends, 3 from internet, 4 from Broward County Public High Schools, and 5 from ATC counselors and the Broward Educator.
Ø  Student ASE’s – Toyota enforcing rule that students must have 2 ASE’s, complete all UOT web courses, and score at least 80% on all Toyota certification tests to receive Toyota credit and graduate the TTEN program. Ken and Tom are working on a new course for strategies on test taking – available within next 2 years. Ken asked members to review the attached ASE Requirement Contract for approval. A motion to accept was made by Bob McGrath and seconded by Craig Bunce. The motion was unanimously carried.
5. ASE PRE CLASSES FOR DEALERSHIP TECHNICIANS
/ ASE’s now available in Spanish. Techs in the dealerships were offered online ASE training and did not take advantage. Suggested giving a bonus for each ASE completed. Younger techs are interested, but older technicians do not care about additional ASE certifications. Dealership ASE Prep Package allows 8 technicians from a dealership to attend ATC for ASE prep classes – not just for TTEN students. Information and registration forms attached. If dealers not interested in the package, classes are still offered to individuals for $95.
6. ONE SEMESTER PROGRAM, EL PLUS AND EL ADVANCED SURVEY / Program is for techs that come from other dealerships with at least 2 years experience and 2 ASE’s. Classes start November 5th and end May 5th. Classes are 1 day a week for 21 weeks. EL Plus and EL Advanced will be given together. Ken and Tom developing a class that would be 1 night a week on a continual loop. May be able to work out a payment plan for the dealerships rather than paying all at once.
Training needs survey was faxed to all dealerships prior to this meeting. A copy of the survey and the results are a part of this packet. Ken reviewed the results of the survey.
7. MENTORING UOT WEB COURSES / All students should be working with a mentor. There are 2 mentor training courses available online. Need at least 15 people interested in order to run course. Upon completion, can become a member of the Mentoring Guild.
8. EMPLOYEE VERIFICATION / The attached Employer Verification form needs to be completed every 2 years as a COE accreditation requirement. COE is similar to NATEF certification, but COE reviews all school programs. Ken asked 3 dealers to complete the form.
9. OTHER BUSINESS / ·  Ready to Work – State certification. Course demonstrates reading for information, applied mathematics and locating information. All programs at ATC will include this certification with their program. Will be offered as a separate class to anyone interested.
·  TTEN program has requested grant money. If granted, will load buses with supplies and offer dealership onsite training.
·  Lexus graduates have to meet Lexus and Toyota guidelines. They receive additional class work/training.
·  Lorena asked each dealer to complete the Staff Needs Analysis: 3 Year Plan and return it to her before leaving. JM Lexus and Maroone will return plan to Ken at a later date. Ken to take plan to other dealerships during site visits.
·  ATC purchased 3 Tech Streams for student training and Toyota donated 2 additional for a total of 5.
·  Dealerships think ATC doing an excellent job.
10. NEXT MEETING DATE / Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12th at 4:00 p.m. This will be a Drive and Dine meeting.
