Eligibility

Students are academically ineligible if they fail more than one class in the preceding quarter. This means students who receive two E’s on their first quarter grades. Students who are trying out for a team are required to bring a copy of their report card to the first day of preseason practice/tryout on November 14th. The coach needs to record their grades.

Required Participation Forms

Students are required to submit a BCPS Pre-participation Physical Evaluation Form that has been completed by a licensed physician, physician’s assistant under the supervision of a licensed, certified physician; or certified nurse practitioner. The physical form must be completed entirely, signed and dated by the physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner. Students are also required to submit a BCPS Athletic Permit Form. The Athletic Permit Form must be fully completed and signed by a parent and/or guardian. Insurance information is mandatory and must be completed. Students who show-up for preseason practice without or incomplete forms will be NOT be permitted to practice. All forms will be collected by the Varsity/JV coach at the first day of practice. Blank forms will be in the Towson High School main office over the summer.

Preseason Practice/Tryouts

All fall practices/tryouts will begin on Saturday, November 14th. Most Towson High School winter teams do make cuts. In order to improve your chances of making a team, you must be present on November 14th. Practice times have not been determined. Please contact the Head Varsity or JV Coach, THS main office (410-887-3608), or the Athletic Director (410-887-3633) towards the end of the fall season. Student-athletes may only tryout for one team at a time. ***Allied bowling does NOT start on November 14th (this team will start after the winter season begins).

Criteria for “Making a THS Athletic Team”

All students who are academically eligible and have submitted all required BCPS athletic paperwork are eligible to tryout. The following criteria will be used when the selection process begins (not in a specific order).

1.  Academic Performance

2.  Skill Level

3.  Attitude

4.  Sportsmanship

5.  Commitment

Being selected and participating on a THS Athletic Team is a privilege, not a right. The coaches select the best players based on the criteria listed above. All cuts are final. Student/athletes who do not make a specific squad may try-out for another team that typically does not make cuts (cross country, golf, badminton, football). The athletic director will not overrule any decision made by a head coach regardless of the reason.
