POSITION TITLE: ASSISTANT GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent, Golf Course Director of Golf, Township ManagerPosition Titles Supervised: none
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Golf Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendentassists the Golf Course Superintendent is scheduling daily assignments, training employees, and performing any tasks needed to maintain the golf course to an acceptable level, determined by the Golf Course Superintendent.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required: High School graduate/equivalent. Currently in the process of obtaining a certificate from an accredited program in turfgrass managementEducation Preferred: Degree or certificate from an accredited program in turfgrass management
Experience Required: Minimum 3-5 years employment at a golf course with some managerial duties, experience with irrigation repair and sprayer operation
Experience Preferred:
Licensure/Certification/Registration: N.J. Fertilizer Application License/ NJ Pesticide Applicators License
Valid NJ driver’s license
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of various varieties of turfgrass including its diseases, insects and other stressesKnowledge of the English language
Knowledge of general safety procedures and preventative actions
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of employment,safety and environmental standards
Knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices
Knowledge of golf facility construction and maintenance principles. practices and methods
Knowledge of design, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems
Knowledge of various watering techniques and processes including hand watering and irrigation programming
SKILLS & ABILITIES:

EQUIPMENT:
Knowledge of use of golf course equipment to include:Carts, tractors, mowers, aerators, dispensers, irrigation system, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.
Calculator & Computer (word processing, spreadsheets, data base software)
FAX Machine, Copier, & Telephone
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Prolonged sitting and standingBending, stooping, crouching, stretching
Ability to walk about the golf course including uneven grass, ditches, and sand terrain over long
distances
Ability to tolerate outdoor weather conditions in summer and winter including inclement and extreme
temperature conditions
Ability to operate equipment with both left and right controls which must be used simultaneously.
Ability to wear respiratory equipment
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds
Subject to irregular hours
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance, performing of and supervision of, all golf course property including but not limited to:--Greens, tees, fairways, sand traps, rough, lakes, streams, ponds, clubhouse landscaping
Assists in supervising and training of all employees
Prepares weekly schedules for all employees, according to the Superintendent’s instructions
Assist with any golf course maintenance task as instructed
Train all full time and seasonal staff on proper use of golf equipment
Supervise in place of Golf Course Superintendent when necessary
Maintain current certification in any specialized areas
--Keep abreast of current and new laws, regulations, information and developments in the field
--Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance knowledge of profession
--Participate in activities that are appropriate and approved by the Township Manager and/or
Business
Perform all related duties as required.
