TOWN OF MORRIS

BY-LAW NO. 11/04

BEING A BY-LAW OF THE TOWN OF MORRIS TO PROVIDE FOR THE CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF THE MORRISCEMETERY.

WHEREASSECTION 232(1) OF THE Municipal Act states in part that:

“A council may pass by-laws for municipal purposes respecting the following matters:

(a)the safety, health, protection and well being of people, and the safety and protection of property.”

AND WHEREAS it is deemed necessary to provide certain care and maintenance of the MorrisCemetery;

NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Town of Morris in open Council assembled, enacts as follows:

1.ThatBy-Law 10/59 be repealed.

2.That no person be allowed to place coverings or fenced enclosures on or around a gravesite.

3.That owners of cemetery plots be allowed to erect a head stone ormarker for each grave.

4.That prior to digging any gravesites or cremation site, the site must be marked by a Town of Morris employee for a fee.

5.That prior to erection of any headstone or marker for a grave, the site must be marked by a Town of Morris employee for a fee.

6.That no trees or shrubs be planted on a grave.

7.That no glass containers be allowed in theMorrisCemetery.

8.Flowers, real or artificial, placed at the headstones are to be maintained by family or friends of interred.

9.That no ashes be sprinkled in the MorrisCemetery

10.That all cremation urns be completely buried.

11.That no pets be buried in the MorrisCemetery.

12.That as of the passing of this bylaw plot sizes are as follows:

Each Ashplotis 3.33’x 5.0’

Each burial plot in the Singles Section (north of the road) is 10’x 4’

Each burial plot in the south portion of the cemetery is 10’ x 3.33’

Each burial lot in the south portion of the cemetery is 10’ x 10’( 3 plots)

13. Fees to be established by resolution as needed.
