Tournament Team Coaches Meeting
5/11/17
Thank you for volunteering your time to be a coach for one of the 2017 Tournament Teams for KABC.
Player Selection and Tournament Team Procedures
- Selection of the players for a KABC Tournament is the sole responsibility of the team manager.
- Players must attend tryout sessions in order to be considered for the selection to a tournament team. The tournament team manager may cut any player that in the opinion of the manager lacks the ability to play tournament level ball. The only player that can be added to the team is a child that had previously attended. There are no exceptions.
- A scoring system is the recommended method of determining who is to be cut. KABC needs to know who tried out for the team and why a player was cut from the team. Parent’s biggest complaint about this process is they feel their child was not given a proper tryout for a tournament team.
- All players must participate in the KABC regular program. There are no exceptions
- Managers will consider multiple factors including: playing ability, attitude, sportsmanship, willingness to participate when required, retain ability (younger players for building future teams), and ability to properly represent the KABC Program.
- Age of Players: Each tournament will have their own age cutoff dates. We suggest going by the May 1st cutoff date. However make sure to check before registering in a tournament that your players are eligible.
- KABC tournament teams must have a minimum of at least 12 players and not more than 15 regular players plus two (2) alternates. Remember most tournaments bat a continuous batting order so the more players mean the longer it takes to get through your order. However fewer players mean less pitchers when playing three games in one day depending on tournament type.
- Tournament play should be limited through June and July. Rulebook states August but remember other sports are starting in August.
- KABC will cover entry fees of up to $1000 per team, in addition to the KABC invitational tournament.
- Managers have the authority to establish their specific team rules and procedures within the guidelines of the KABC rules.
Finances
- Players: KABC will charge an additional fee ($85.00) to tournament team players to assist in covering the costs associated with those teams. Costs incurred by KABC include: entry fees for approved tournaments, basic team equipment and one uniform per player. Uniform includes shirt, hat, socks, (pants must be turned in after season).
Timeline of events:
- April 30th & May 7th official tryout dates for teams. Remember if a player does not show up at one of these dates then they are not eligible for traveling team. So get them there if you want them.
- After final tryout and before May 24th, select the players and provide list to your division commissioner for approval before notifying players. Division commissioners need a list of all who tried out with explanation for those not selected. Strictly in case parents notify commissioner with questions.
- By June 7th, collect $100.00 from each player and turn into your division commissioner. All money must be turned in before uniforms will be ordered.
- Contact Josh Donohoo() about available field space for practices. Suggested practices would be one through week and on Sunday. Players improve skill level if they are able to practice so get them out to the fields. Do not practice Memorial Day weekend.
- By June 7th provide team roster with sizes of shirts, and pants to Anthony Switzer ()
- Make sure to have each player complete a Medical Form and get a copy of their birth certificate. Both will be needed at tournaments.
- Suggested Baseball Tournaments:
- July 4th weekend Springboro
- July 11th weekend Miamisburg
- July 18th weekend KABC
- At least 3 weeks prior to the tournament a roster and registration form must be completed and turned into eitherAnthony Switzer or Andrea Scheu
- Would like all teams to go to same tournaments as parents may have kids on multiple teams and they should not have to choose who they go see play.
- July 23rd turn in pants and equipment at the shed.
Again thanks for volunteering your time, KABC tournament teams is a great way for players to improve their skills by playing at a more competitive level. The word in the last sentence I want to focus on is playing. Kids learn best by getting out and playing, yes this is a competitive team but allow the kids to get out and learn and let them have fun. Little Joe wants to play more than right field the entire tournament season, do your best to get him involved with the team.
