A summary of the discussion is given below. Panel discussions led to the following conclusions:-

Conclusions on innovation and good practice

The Panel commend the Team on the following areas of good practice identified during the review:

  • Superb Personal Tutoring
  • Approachable staff
  • Use of electronic submissions
  • Adaption to MOODLE
  • Career Investment Programme
  • Employability Strategy, the bespoke employability module in particular
  • Doctoral training assistants scheme
  • Proposal to use placements for internship opportunities

Conclusions on quality and standards

The Panel were confident that quality and standards are being maintained to the highest level. In particular, the Panel commend the Team on the outstanding NSS results. It is evident that the Team have clearly adapted to previous NSS concerns / comments.

Conclusions on whether the programmes remain current and valid in the light of developing knowledge in the discipline, practice in its application and developments in teaching and learning

The Panel commend the Teams robust strategy to ensure programmes remain current and valid. In particular, it was evident that students recognise and clearly value the:

  • Teams strong links with Industry
  • Design of the programmes
  • Balance of theory and practical work
  • Support for placements

In addition, the Panel commend the Teams commitments to ensuring staff teach in their research specialisms which add value for both staff and students.

Forward-looking recommendations for actions to remedy any identified shortcomings, and for further enhancement of quality and standards

The Panel made the following recommendations, some of which were identified at the stage one meeting:

  • Review relationship with the International Office with a view to agreeing Service Level Agreements
  • Review impact of CEP on staff workloads
  • Explore SIVS funding for languages
  • Revisit planned activity for the period between Semester 1 and Semester 2 as a result of CEP implementation
