Touch Systems Data Entry

Keyboarding is a life long skill. It involves correct finger placement on the keyboard and correct reaching of the keys without looking at your fingers. Speed is developed after accuracy is mastered. Speed and accuracy is developed using methods of drilling. The goal of this class is to teach proper keyboarding skills that will develop speed and accuracy to complete work at the computer as well as work on word processing skills, and introduce computer terminology.

General Information

Generally the first six weeks is spent learning the keyboard, practicing proper technique and finger placement as well as basic computer terminology. The second six weeks is spent on building accuracy and speed. The third six weeks is spent working on accuracy and word processing elements.

Class Rules

Follow all the school rules.

Show respect to everyone in the computer lab.

Raise your hand and wait to be called on if you have a question.

Do not chew gum, eat, or drink in the lab.

Be responsible for the equipment that you are using.

Do not havecell phonesout without permission. They will be picked up and turned into the AP’s office. You may never listen to music in my class, not on the computer or on a phone or other device.

Tutorials and Make Up work

Tutorials and Make up work will be completed either during your Genius Period or at a time scheduled with the teacher after school.

Supplies (= 5 pts. Extra credit added to a major grade)

Grading Procedures

Touch Systems Data Entry follows district policy 40% Daily Grades and 60% Major Grades. Daily grades include class participation, class work, keyboarding techniques, correct finger placement and usage, correct body placement and keyboard timings. Major grades include keyboard timings, correct body placement, written exams, projects and production. This class is a high school credit, therefore there is a final exam at the end of the semester, administered in three parts, which counts as 20% of the overall grade average.

Internet Usage

Because this lab has Internet capabilities, each student and his/her parent or guardian need to carefully read the Internet Usage Agreement sheet that was turned in when schedules were handed out. The Internet can be a useful took in education, but strict guidelines will be given for the students to follow. Usage requires the student to understand that he/she is responsible for following the guidelines set forth by the district.
