Arts and Science Curriculum Coordinating Committee
Throughout the month of September, I attended three meetings for the Arts and Science Curriculum Coordinating Committee.Serving on this Committee has been very informative and it has awarded me many opportunities to ask questions regarding curriculum changes that could/would affect students if implemented. I have enjoyed sitting being a part of this body, and I am looking forward to our next meeting.
Fresh Fest
I set up the Fresh-Flix event and helped take down the Jamboree infrastructure after the event was held. It was great to see so many students get involved and to see the background effort to successfully hold Fresh Fest.
General Faculties Council (GFC)
I attended the first GFC meeting of the year as well as its orientation during the second week of the year. The orientation was a great way to learn more about the University and its structure, as well as how GFC operates. At this meeting, I was appointed to sit on GFC as there had been a resignation from the ULSU General Assembly. I am very honoured to be able to sit on the Council and I look forward to serving my constituents in this capacity.
Club Rush Week Set-up and Tabling
Every day during Club Rush Week, I helped to set up the ULSU table. On the Thursday, I also had the chance to sit down and table for the ULSU. It was awesome to see students engage with us and learn not only about what the ULSU does for them, but how they can get involved as well.
Academic Speaker Tabling
During the last week of the month, I tabled for our upcoming academic speaker. I really enjoyed spreading the word about this great event to students around the university, and I am excited for the event to happen.
Mental Health Funding Announcement
On the first day of school, I was granted the great honour of speaking at Lethbridge College to voice my support for continued and sustainable mental health funding on post-secondary campuses. It was a spectacular occasion in which to partake, and I am grateful that I could be the students’ voice on this important matter.
General Assembly Meeting
It was fantastic to be back in the GA Council Chambers for another year, and it was great to see everyone again. As this was the first meeting back after the start of the fall semester, our agenda was quite full. Firstly, we had the privilege of voting in two by-elections: one for First Year Representative, and one for an Arts and Science vacancy. All the students who put their names forward were very impressive and it was a difficult decision. Nevertheless, I am excited to get to know our two new GA members. Furthermore, we heard presentations from student groups on campus and voted on club ratifications.
Thank you,
Laura Bryan
