  1. Sun Life Insurance Plan

The waiting period for coverage of new employees is as follows:
- items a,b, c, d, e, h: one (1) month of continuous service
- item f: three (3) months of continuous service
- item g: six (6) months of continuous service
Eg.An individual who commences employment on May 15 must serve a one-month waiting period until June 15. However, premiums are payable July 1.

  1. Sick Leave Credits
A member of the Academic Bargaining unit employed at the College on a full-basis on or after April 1, 1991, will accumulate sick leave credits at the rate of 20 days per year of continuous service, or a pro-ration thereof.
Unused sick leave credits will be accumulated. However, no gratuity entitlement will be attached to these credits.
Should you exhaust all of your accumulated sick leave credits and continue to be off work sick, you will receive STD benefits equal to 75% of your regular earnings until you recover or the date your LTD benefits would normally commence, whichever occurs first.

  1. Long Term Disability Income Insurance

Elimination Period: The period commencing on the date you become totally disabled and ending on the later of:
i.the completion of 130 working days (including statutory and College holidays) of absence due to illness in the past 12 months
or
ii.the expiration of sick leave credits, if any, which you elect to use
For a period of total disability which is a result of pregnancy, the elimination period commences on the date the pregnancy terminates, or if earlier, the date you are totally disabled.

  1. CAAT Pension Plan And Canada Pension Plan (Integrated)

Your pension is calculated using a formula and the pension of each Plan member is calculated using the same formula. The variables in the formula are a) your earnings and b) your years of service.

1.3% x HAPE to AYMPE x pensionable service

If you retire before age 65, you receive an additional payment called a bridge benefit. The bridge benefit is paid every month until you turn 65.

HAPE – Highest average pensionable earnings- These are your earnings during the 60 consecutive months that your pensionable earnings were highest.

The equivalent of the regular monthly membership dues shall be deducted from the salaries of all new employees and remitted to the OPSEU head office. Upon the request of any employee, on the basis of religious or moral convictions, this deduction will be remitted to a charitable organization under Part 1 of the Income Tax Act (Canada) as designated by the employee. / 1.375% of earnings per pay plus 0.2% per pay to College Local 125 / NIL / 100%
