Development Associate, Major Gifts
The Development Associate will be a member of the Major Gifts department. The Development Associate provides administrative leadership and strategic fundraising support to the Campaign Director, Arthritis Program.
The Arthritis Program at the TorontoWesternHospital is the premier and largest multidisciplinary arthritis program in Canada. It has the largest division of arthritis researchers in North America and its Rheumatology division is ranked #1 in North America. Each year, more than 80,000 patients receive innovative and compassionate care from the program’s multi disciplinary arthritis team. The Campaign To Cure Arthritis( raised $35M since its launch in November, 2011, and will soon embark on its next phase. The Campaign leverages the existing strong program with new, world-first arthritis research that seeks an early diagnosis, novel treatments and ultimately, a cure for arthritis.
The incumbent will be part of the successful development and implementation of the Arthritis Campaign and work actively and successfully with campaign volunteers and board champions. The Development Associate will focus on assisting the Campaign Director in raising funds from major and planned gifts prospects/donors primarily in the $100,000+ level and support all aspects of project management of the Campaign.
In addition, the Development Associate will be called on to assist others in the department and the foundation from time to time and must possess the ability to work as an active team member, while remaining cognizant of his/her primary role. The successful candidate will be a mature, energetic, versatile individual who can manage multiple priorities in a busy campaign office. The successful candidate enjoys the challenge of working in a vigorous, successful fundraising environment with theresponsibility for a wide range of assigned duties and projects. The incumbent will require strong administrative, multi-tasking and organizational skills to track and complete assigned development activities and prospect/donor information. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in related fundraising roles and a stronginterest in the major gifts field.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Work with the Communications department to coordinate complex materials including but not limited to correspondence, speaking and meeting notes, strategic briefs; proposals and reports
- Liaise with physicians and other medical staff in the preparation of proposals and impact reports
- Create and coordinate strategic cultivation and stewardship plans
- Cultivate and steward donors
- Arrange complex meetings, tours and hospitality
- Manage calendars and schedules
- Update and retrieve donor information files/database records
- Respond to internal and external requests for information
- Provide support at functions for cultivation, fundraising and stewardship
- Other duties consistent with job classification
REQUIREMENTS
University degree or equivalent experience
2+ years as a fundraising team member
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Exceptional relationship building skills
Exceptional writing skills
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Evidence of leadership and initiative, tact, diplomacy and creativity
Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues and volunteers
Ability to work in a hectic and results oriented environment
Computer literacy: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint is an asset), database software and spreadsheet programs; familiarity with Raiser´s Edge a significant asset.
Interest in the major gifts process
Experience working in a health care or not-for-profit environment
